The pouch aroma of this blend reminds me of dry grass/hay with some sweetness and a noticeable amount of spiciness. I detect some tang to it as well. It smells quite nice. The moisture content is perfect for smoking right away. I loaded up my pipe and proceeded to the charring light.
On the charring light:
Flavor: Is a straight forward tobacco flavor with light hints of sweetness.
Aroma: Is very sweet smelling.
I finished lighting the pipe and settled in for the smoke.
At the beginning of the smoke there is a sort of dryness to it. I taste the grassy/hay flavor and there is a noticeable sweetness to it. I also detect a flavor and part of the aroma that I can not really describe. It kind of reminds me of being pastry like, but that is not really what it tastes and smells like. It is very difficult to explain. At first when I pick up on it, I think that it is pastry like. But when I focus on it, I can tell that it is not. I can not affectively describe that particular flavor.
Around the 3/4 point of the bowl, the spiciness starts to build some. The grassy/hay like flavors have diminished and now along with the spiciness, there is a straight forward tobacco flavor accompanied by notes of sweetness. There is still a dryness that I am detecting on my palate that reminds me of when I drink a red wine with a decent amount of tannins in it.
Around mid-bowl, the spiciness has become very noticeable. Other than the increase in the spiciness, the flavor profile is the same as it was at the 3/4 point. This stayed the same until the end of the bowl.
This is a decent VA/Per blend. It smokes cool, dry, and doesn’t bite. The flavor profile is decent, but something about it just doesn’t do it for me. While this is a solid blend and I am sure that many out there will love it, there are other offerings in the Hearth & Home Series that I prefer over this one. But I suggest giving it a try, it might be right up your alley. I Recommend it.
