Tis’ the season for some Eggnog!
The tin aroma of this blend is excellent and instantly invokes memories of the Holiday Season. I am picking up on the rum, cinnamon, and nutmeg aromas, but I am not picking up on any of the vanilla. That doesn’t mean that it isn’t there though. The tin aroma of this blend is very complex and there is a lot going on, so it is probably hiding in there somewhere. It does not smell anything like actual Eggnog, it is more of just the Christmas and Holiday spices that most people are accustomed to smelling around the Holidays. So, just in case you were worried about smoking “actual” Eggnog in your pipe, don’t be (although I wouldn’t mind doing that during the Holiday Season, lol). The moisture content is perfect for smoking as soon as I received it.
I loaded up my pipe using the two step method and proceeded to the charring light. Upon the charring light, I was greeted by the lovely aroma and taste of this blend. In the taste and aroma, I was picking up on some of the vanilla (there it is!) along with the spices that are associated with Christmas and the Holiday season. When I refer to the spices, I mean the cinnamon and nutmeg combined aroma. To me, those two things combine to create a distinctive smell and taste that just screams out Christmas/Holiday. You know that it contains both and can sometimes pick up hints of each, but together they create their own special thing.
At the start of the bowl, the flavor and aroma came right through. There is some sweetness that accompanies, what I will call, the holiday flavors. What I mean by holiday flavors is; I don’t really pick up on any of the individual flavors (rum, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg) that are in the description, but they combine to create that wonderful, complex holiday taste. There is also a very slight spiciness on the tongue from the cinnamon. It is not a hot spicy or even the peppery spicy that you get from Perique. It is that holiday spicy that is very pleasing (don’t let this deter you, it is very slight). The flavor and aroma stayed constant from start to finish. The room note is amazing! It sends out that Christmas/Holiday scent that will invoke images of the season.
This blend is difficult to break down into words. It is a one dimensional smoke, but that one dimension is complex. Let me try to explain; I say it is one dimensional because it pretty much has the same flavor from start to finish, but the flavor that it has is a very complex flavor. There is a lot going on to create that special flavor and keep it constant and steady for the whole bowl. Egg Nog is perfectly blended. This blend truly captures the essence of the Christmas/Holiday season in the tin aroma, taste, and room note to offer a complete Christmas/Holiday blend.
This blend smoked cool, dry, didn’t bite me at all, and it didn’t leave a goopy mess in the pipe. This blend has been, and always will be, a staple in my Christmas/Holiday smoking rotation. I do not smoke this blend any other time of the year. I guess it certainly could be smoked at other times, but with the lack of Christmas/Holiday blends available, I choose to save it for that special time of year between November and January. If you like aromatics, the change of pace aromatic, or you are just looking for a good Christmas/Holiday blend; you need to definitely give Egg Nog a try. I don’t think that you’ll regret it.
I Highly Recommend it!
