The Seattle Pipe Club has announced that they will add three new blends to their line-up this year, bringing the total count to six. The original three blends; (Mississippi River, Plum Pudding, and Seattle Evening – see them here.) created by club member Joe Lankford, have been long-time best sellers, and receive constant rave reviews.
Well now, Joe has done it again. I had the chance to smoke two of the blends during The Seattle Pipe Club Annual dinner two weeks ago, where I happened to be the keynote speaker. [See the article here.] I thoroughly enjoyed both Deception Pass and Pike Place. I didn’t get a chance to try Potlatch. All three blends will be sold through PipesAndCigars.com.
Deception Pass will be available on February 23rd. It is a Virginia/Perique with a touch of Orientals. The back of the tin label reads; "DECEPTION PASS …on north Puget Sound tidal waters flow dangerous & quick under a high trestle bridge. Master Blender Joe Lankford retreats here to reflect. Joe’s NW style Virginia Perique gives the pipesmoker a sense of how we savor our marvelous region."
Potlatch will be released May 1st, in time for the Chicago Pipe Show. It contains Cavendish, Burley, Virginias, Latakia, Perique and Orientals.
The back of the tin label reads; "POTLATCH ~ is the traditional Northwest Indian Celebration of Plenty. Sumptuous feasts and ritual ceremonies lasted weeks. Gifts were shared with many old and new friends. The Seattle Pipe Club’s Potlatch is just such a gift of our pipe tobacco. Enjoy this lavish mixture of seven rare ingredients: Black Cavendish marries with luxury burley, bright Virginias, Turkish Orientals and Acadian Perique. Crafting the most sought after small batch blends in America since 2007."
Pike Place will be released July 1st. It is a Balkan mixture of Latakia, Turkish Orientals, Burleys and Perique. The description on the back of the tin says;
"PIKE PLACE …our famous Public Market is a genuine farmer’s market. Wonderful aromas greet you in a hodge podge of open air fruit & vegetable stands, cheese & butcher shops, oyster bars, even fish mongers tossing salmon. Inspired by this abundance, Joe Lankford created our Pike Place blend. Joe’s twist on his popular Balkan includes Cyprian Latakia, Spicy Orientals, Luxury Tennessee Burley and Bright Virginias."
Seattle Pipe Club President, Matt Guss asserts; "These are deliciously complex and sophisticated blends for the pipe man. They have depth and character as they develop throughout the bowl. They are so good, you will just want more."
Great news! Looking very forward to trying these new blends. The artwork is also pretty amazing. SPC is honed in to excellence.
Thanks for the ‘heads up’!
Too bad pipesandcigars will not ship to a Washington State address. Kind of ironic.
