Drucquers Banner

Welcome to our official “End of the World” show. Smoke as much as you can tonight just in case the world ends tomorrow. Our featured guest tonight is Grant Batson. Grant is a pipe maker, guitar maker and also plays his own compositions on guitar. Brian will talk to Grant not only about pipes, but guitars as well for a quite interesting conversation. You will be treated to some of Grant’s musical talent as well. See his pipes at GBatsonPipes.com

Tonight’s show is sponsored by SmokingPipes.com, Missouri Meerschaum, 4noggins.com, and Cup O’ Joes. Please give them some consideration when making your next pipe or tobacco purchase.

  • Another great show. Irish hunh on the rope tobacco. I always attributed it to the Cornish Tin Miners in England. You are correct about the miners. Prior to the 1930s you could find a rope slicer in most country stores. You can still find the devices on the antique market. I have noticed the connection between pipe smokers and guitars in the past. I recall a great evening several years ago at the Richmond show listening to an impromptu concert one evening. We have moved our local club meeting a week due to the snow storm coming in tomorrow. I hope the weather is better next week!
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all. I hope you all get your pipe wishes this year.

  • Another fine show.
A club member at the GKCPC is a big collector of Comoys. I think he told me the Comoy’s were the first to make briar pipes in the mid-1800’s in the town of St.Claud.
Guitar making must be one poor way to make a living if Batson gave it up to make pipes.
    Happy Holidays to all!

  • Greetings Brian & Crew:
Pipes and Guitars – Great Combo!
Nice show and cool guitar sounds, too.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all.

  • I just listened to the NPR interview with Kevin and the way you handled the comment from the irritated caller Ramona was wonderful. When she spoke I immediately was thrown into all shades of distress and she sowered my bowl of 1Q. What I really loved was how the host of the NPR show Colin McEnroe immediately recognized the what she was saying, but was able to skillfully navigate the discussion back to pipe smoking and not all smoking in general. Kudos to you both. I enjoyed the open minded ness of the host as well as the defense put forth by Kevin in that it was absolutely appropriate. It was good to listen and by the end of the show my 1Q bowl returned to its former greatness.
Good show and I encourage all to listen as I learned a few new things about Briar. This was because the host Colin was interested in knowing what it was all about coming from someone who didn’t know anything about pipes. He handled the show with grace and respect. This is what I expect from NPR. Open minded discussion and not derailing accusations….
