Pipes Magazine Radio Show Episode 562

Pipes Magazine Radio Show Episode 562

Welcome to The Pipes Magazine Radio Show Episode 562! Our featured interview tonight is with Kevin Foster. Kevin is a part-time pipe maker residing in Atlanta. His full time job is flying Boeing 767s for a commercial airline in and out of Atlanta, South America, and Europe. Kevin started smoking a pipe in college, on and off. He got back into smoking during the 2020 COVID lockdown, and while reading Rick Newcombe’s book, “In Search of Pipe Dreams” where the author described the special way he liked to have his pipes drilled wider, Kevin became curious and inspired. He is just two years shy of pipe making experience, and has already developed quite a following. At the top of the show we will have a Pipes 101 Revisited segment with a discussion of the pipe shank.

  • A very succinct review of the shank, its shapes, lengths, and decorations. I’m sure this will be a boon to new pipe smokers.
Lighthearted and fun, yet interesting conversation with Kevin. He seems to have a good plan to expand his pipe making skills.
London Grammar’s cover of “Wicked Game” was just plain lovely.
Yes, it’s OK to be wrong. Good rant.
Thanks for another always entertaining show.

  • Very nice review of the shank and what it does for a pipe. Shanks come in all sorts of shapes and sizes and can be adorned with just about anything under the sun including bamboo, silver. gold, wood of just about every variety, horn, plastic, and anything else you can think of.
A really nice interview with Kevin. He was genuinely interesting to listen. As an avowed “I ain’t getting in anything that leaves the ground” I found his love of flying to be rather scary and his willingness to go on flights that last for several centuries mind boggling.
    Music was okay, I guess.
I agreed with the rant. Most folks just assume their right in total ignorance of Sturgeon’s Law. We have this law professor who is a part of the Saturday afternoon meeting of pipe smokers who has been telling us they’re going to get a certain personage of note. It’s been over six-and-a-half years and they are still working on it. Incredible.
