Pipes Magazine Radio Show Episode 510

Welcome to The Pipes Magazine Radio Show Episode 510! Our featured interview tonight is part three with Fred Janusek. He is a Doctor of Pipes, and professor of mathematics. Fred is in his early 80s, and he has been smoking a pipe since college in 1957. His first pipe was a very shellac-covered Yello Bole. These are some great stories of back in the day when pipes were everywhere. We will skip our usual opening segment as we have that much good material from Fred. Sit back, relax with your pipe, and enjoy The Pipes Magazine Radio Show!

  • I am soaked from the waves of nostalgia Fred has washed me in. Gad! I remember so many of those times, places, people and events. Yes, today’s pipe community is rich with its own pomp and circumstance, and they too will look back on these days, just as we old farts do of our days, with moist eyes and full hearts.
Great music choice! Freddie and your two Freds are among my favorite “entertainers.”
    A wonderful show!
    Thanks.

  • This was very good show particularly for those of us who are to enough to have fought in the Civil War. Fred’s reminisces are done at a delightful pace and you feel like you were there. His memories make me really miss the things that were going on field in the 80’s and 90’s that I knew nothing about. I was stuck out in Nowhere, Missouri, with a crazed wife and four kids. The only thing keeping me going was my pipe. It was in the 2000’s that I finally heard about The Pipe Smokers Ephemeris. Of course by then Tom Dunn had died and the TPSE was done. I started attending pipe shows as the carvers started showing up. And the rest is history. Good times.
I don’t like Queen’s music as a rule but they do have of number of songs that I do like. Unfortunately, this wasn’t one of them. Freddie did have a very pleasant voice, though.
