Welcome to The Pipes Magazine Radio Show Episode 474! Our featured interview tonight is with “pipe making hobbyist”, Murph. Even though he won a pipe carving contest back in the ’80’s, he says, “I am not a ‘pipe maker.’  I am a pipe making hobbyist.  I don’t make a business or vocation with my pipes.  I create them as an avocation because I have the time, enjoy the creative process and love the gratification of completing something beautiful, unique and useful.” However, you can buy his pipes. At the top of the show, Brian will report on his nearly three-week trip and cruise through Greece, Italy and Croatia. Sit back, relax with your pipe, and enjoy The Pipes Magazine Radio Show!

• Just another Great episode. Your trip report was very interesting. Made me wish that I was there.

Quite an interesting fellow is Murph. I’m like you, absolutely helpless on surfboard. I enjoyed his stories involving the giant waves. Those were something else.

I was 8 when Davy Crockett ruled the airwaves for a few weeks so naturally I loved that character!! I had a 45 record of the Davy Crockett song but it wasn’t the version you played. It was done by some normal group but I can’t remember who. Fess Parker’s version was kind of hokey but I enjoyed every last second of it. Thanks for the memories as Bob would say.

Happy trails to Frank Burla. He was a true giant in the industry. I didn’t know him other than by sight but he was a giant. R.I.P.

• It’s great having you back! And, with a wonderful show.
Murph was a delightful conversationalist, a true artisan.
I was a huge “Davy Crockett Show” fan. I threatened to leave home if my parents didn’t get me a coonskin cap like Davy’s. I never got the hat, but I stuck around for the vittles.
That was a lovely tribute to our friend Frank Burla. I first met Frank when the North Side group melded with the South Side folk to form the Chicagoland Pipe Collectors Club, and we became friends.
He will be greatly missed. May his memory be eternal.
Thank you,
Dino
