Cornell & Diehl #107 Haunted Bookshop – Pipe Tobacco Reviews

The pouch aroma is a nice straight forward tobacco smell with a light hint of tanginess. The moisture content is perfect for smoking right away with no drying time needed. The cut of this blend is rough, coarse, and chunky. I loaded the pipe using the Three Step Method and proceeded to the charring light.

On the charring light:
Flavor: Is a straight forward tobacco flavor.
Aroma: Is a straight forward tobacco aroma with a hint of sweetness.
I finished lighting the pipe and settled in for the smoke.

At the beginning the flavor is the same as the charring light; a straight forward tobacco flavor. There is a very light hint of a natural sweetness to it, but I am not picking up on any of the usual characteristics of Perique. The amount of Perique in this blend must be small and only used in the strictest form as a condiment.

By the 3/4 point, the sweetness picked up a little bit, but it is still not very strong. It is just sweet enough to balance out the smoke. I still do not pick up on any of the normal pepper/spice of the Perique. But I am picking up on a very light hint of, for lack of a better term, fruitiness that I sometimes get from Perique tobacco. That is one of the things that I love about Perique. It can have a multitude of flavors depending on its use in a blend. This flavor profile stayed until the last 1/4 of the bowl.

Around the last 1/4 of the bowl, I started to taste a little bit of spice. I am also picking up on very light hints of woodiness on the finish. I no longer taste the fruitiness that I described earlier. This last change in the flavor lasted until the end of the smoke.

All in all this is a pretty good blend. It smokes cool, dry, and didn’t bite at all. It has a good room note that is a sweet tobacco smell with some light hints of nuttiness and has a pleasant finish. I am not a big fan of Burley blends, but I do like this blend quite a bit. This is a good blend to smoke when you want to relax without having to focus on the tobacco. It goes great with a cup of coffee in the morning or as a last smoke of the day. If you like Burley blends, I think that Haunted Bookshop will be right in your wheel house.
I Recommend it.
