I grew up with an incredible water dog, Springer/Cocker mix, but uncannily strong -- many stories about my George. But before George arrived, we had a little gray female cat which had kittens, and she imprinted on me strongly and left me with some kind of cat etiquette behavior that gives me an innate "in" with cats. I think she took me as a large, slow kitten and raised me accordingly. Currently, the household has three cats and I am half of their faithful staff.

Know what you mean mso. Cats have always been attracted to me. We never owned one, though, until we moved to our current home 6 years ago. A stray became very attached to me, following me everywhere outside. When we discovered it had no home, we took it in. Prior to then, I was neutral re cats, but now love them and our Percy in particular. a very loving, cuddly cat.

Cats are much more social and companionable than their image. They don't have to be walked, but they do need social time, often with their people. I like their independent not-domesticated streak, and I feel sort of honored when they come around for attention. Two of our three cats are Maine Coon look-alikes (out of a drainpipe) that have some dog-like and people-like behaviors. The other cat, the only female, had kittens when young, went outside a lot, and is the most focussed and logical cat I've ever known. The other cats, the fellas, are smart, but she is focused and organized too. When you look in her face, it is clear she is actively thinking. More so than most people, possibly including me.
