I always liked Savinelli as a brand (Italian Dunhill?), and flipping through a 1970s catalog made me want to search for a nice older (pre 6mm) Savinelli pipes -
So I ended up picking a Giubileo D'Oro (which has okay cross grain) and a Punto Oro 4 digit billiard (which has a tiny fill) - so I'm off to get "nicer" high tier Savinellis - I had this beautiful Autograph 8 that was unfortunately starting to burn through - but had the nicest flame grain pipe of any I've owned (sold it off).
I know the pipes that made the Oro grades varied widely (and man I've also seen some gnarly fills on the Extras and Milano Deluxes) - but I know nice ones exist

What are your favorites?

A very nice looking pipe. I love the simplicity. These days there are so many pipes accented with acrylic rings, sterling silver, different wood bands, mammoth teeth (not even kidding), etc. While they are cool, I still always love the look of wood and stem and that's it. If I had to pick, I'd probably give up all the rest for that classic simplicity.

sweet pipes george. Especially like the 904 and the Apple. Love me a good apple/prince.
thanks for the video on the dunhill redbark the other day too, it was very informative.

You own that?

It is indeed the King! That is the one 402 (4002) missing from my collection.

I am green with envy. [:)]
Yes Sir, not only it's a 4002 but also a Punto Oro Corallo grade. I was lucky enough to buy it, I think it was October of 2017. Couldn't believe the owner sold it at such a low price. This pipe was featured in SPC's petite pipe blog and is rumoured a higher management SPC executive owned it before they put it up for sale.

Wow - I need to start looking harder - I know Savinelli can make some nice stuff, but everytime I pick one up off ebay, I go "oh, that's why that Giubileo D'oro/Punto Oro went for so little"

I think Savinelli went from 4 digit numbers to 3 digit numbers in the 1970's.

The exceptions are Non Pareil and Dry System pipes

Awesome pipes. I don't have anything vintage. But, I have two Savs that are my favorite pipes.
They look great and they smoke well.

Some of my favorite Pipes are my Savinelli's! I have a few Bruna's that I really like and for a long trip, that 606 EX Hercules is nice to have... Also, I like their 614's, easy to clench.
