Wait, so all this time I was wrong to think people were telling me, "you make me vomit"?
An aunt of a very good friend sent flowers and a card to a friend who had just lost her husband, signing off with “LOL” thinking it meant “Lots Of Love” 
When I was about 12 I was reading an American book (the title escapes me) and I kept coming across the acronym SOB. I asked my Mother what SOB meant and after a moment's thought she said it means Silly Old Bugger!
It wasn't until I was in my 20's that I learned the true meaning

I actually enjoy "YMMV" and use it a lot, but I absolutely refuse to ever, under any circumstances, type EL OH EL (see, I still managed to avoid it).
Can't help you on that one, but on a car forum, a British member described the owner of a Jaguar XKE's as "wide boy" - I interpreted as "poser"?If you want to confuse an American just say to them as you leave TTFN and watch them try and figure that one out!
