Hi all, I hope this is the right place to ask this question. I'm really into the material culture of opium in China during the 19th/20th centuries, and came across a bunch of opium pipes that are unusual. They are shaped like clenched fists, with the bowl positioned at the end of the pipe rather than around 3/4 along it. Would anyone be able to tell me more about this design - any origins, or significance? I've been trying to find more examples of this style of pipe without success, either in art or archaeology. Here are some examples:

Any help or links to further reading would be hugely appreciated!
