As cold-tolerant as I like to claim I am, I do spend much less time outside smoking when it's below freezing. I actually get a little bit annoyed when a pipe refuses to go out for a while.

My pipe smoking hibernated last winter. I'm hopeful it won't occur again this winter, but my schedule (and the cold as an outdoor smoker) have been rather prohibitive.

So all year round, either on the front verandah or patio in the backyard

All year outside for me too. Dead of winter or dog days of summer often it'll be partial bowls. But I still go out for a pipe a few times a day.

I seem to be a spring to fall smoker, I take a break during winter , do a cleaning and store/display them during winter

I'm the opposite, if anything.

The cooler air of the fall is perfect for an outdoor smoker like myself.

I love summer, sun, heat etc. But I appreciate how going out to smoke in the cold “toughens me up” and makes me realize the cold isn’t so bad. My folks gave me one of those propane heat lamps for the deck, but I didn’t even use it last year.

Agreed. Even other guys who smoke profess amazement at the fact that I smoke inside, something that to me seems essential to being at home.

This thread's title activated my confuserizer like few things in recent memory.

Putting pipes away when Mars is less than 33 degrees above the horizon for an odd number of minutes when viewed from an even numbered latitude AND the precipitation total for the continental United States was an odd number of inches the day before, of course. Like, duh.

But something completely arbitrary and without cause like the time of year? No way.

Outside smoker here. There are typically one or two days each season where the heat or cold are too much and I just skip it.
