Could someone who has a copy of the book please check for a reference for a "Jet Set Flying Disc" briar pipe? There are more than one of these flying disc shaped UFO pipes around. Some are stamped "Jet Set" on the left side of the vulcanized bit (see pic), & some have the Mastercraft logo there instead (pic from Pipephil). Jet Set is listed as one of the seconds for Mastercraft; Mastercraft being owned by Lane Ltd. On the bottom of the bowl stamped inside an oval is "Flying Disc". Other stampings are "Italy" & "Imported Briar". Looking for any & all additional information. Thanks for any & all help.

Cool looking pipe-who ever made it. Mastercraft did not have "seconds" because they did not make pipes. They imported and distributed pipes from all over the world, some with their name on them.

Thanks ejames, that explains a lot. I think these pipes were actually made by Lorenzo which would also explain the Italy stamp. With Mastercraft as a distributor it would also explain why info is so hard to come by.

One of the members over at the DGCF may be able to tell you more about these pipes. He ran Mastercraft after it was bought by UST and combined with Grabow at their factory in Sparta,NC. He goes by "Ted".

It seems that "Jet Pipe" first went into business circa 1940's with the idea to improve upon the sparkless Zeppelin pipe and/or cigar pipe by keeping it's slender horizontal shape but making it vertical loading from the top (see pic). It was an effort to improve from having to unscrew the metal nose of the Zeppelin and/or unscrew the middle joint of the cigar pipe in order to load it. One of their design models was named, "Space" so they were definitely playing on the exploding aircraft & aerospace industries.

Lorenzo didn't go into business as a brand until 1946. Using Google Translator (since I don't speak French) the translation can sometimes be rough, but here is the confirmation that these Jet Pipe pipes were made by Lorenzo for Mastercraft:
"Both Jet Pipe pipes were manufactured by Lorenzo for the brand Mastercraft in the 60's as well as pipes sparkless in this chapter pipes cigarette."
It is pure speculation on my part then that Lorenzo either acquired Jet Pipe after making pipes for them or registered the name Jet Set and designed the Flying Disc pipe on their own for Mastercraft. Either way, Lorenzo is the maker of the Flying Disc pipe.
