Whiskey with pipes

Anyone else feel this way? I love whiskey with cigars, a match made in heaven. But whiskey with pipes just does not work for me, not at all. My favorite beverage with pipes has become iced coffee with heavy cream, always a great match with any pipeweed in my humble opinion (hot coffee in colder weather of course!).

I love cognac with my pipes. Especially with a good VaPer.

Evening pipe might be accompanied with a bit of Port or, cognac. Coffee, water, beer, Port, Cognac, Jameson, Pepsi, and so forth all pair well with cigarettes, cigars and pipes. I'm a man of simple tastes.

I like a few different beverages with the pipe, whiskey or a dark ale are nice and a chilled apple cider with a Virginia blend is deliciously agreeable.

Also very partial to an amaro (Italian bitter digestive)
An Aussie liqueur tokay (unrelated to Hungarian tokay) also goes very well, in my opinion

But with cigars, my preference is definitely a rum/rhum or a port

With tobacco, I like cognac or brandy, also whisky, and black tea. No cold drinks, with milk, beer maybe with a cigar. But nothing cold if it is with pipe tobacco.

Depends on what I've got going on, getting ready for work or working smokes yeah I like coffee prefer it black and hot, (don't care much for iced or any of the foo-foo coffees) or maybe a coke.

Winding down before supper tea iced or hot, a cold beer or ice water pending on how the day went.

On the back porch after supper with Mama and the dogs I do enjoy a Woodford straight up in the glass, a nice Virginia blend in the pipe, a cool summer breeze in the air, and soulful delta blues or maybe a little Coltrain lightly playing in the background. While we share what the day was like.

Although I'm partial to rye (...and peated scotch, and tawny port, and imperial stouts, and barleywines, and quads...), I'm not partial to any of these while smoking a pipe. They don't strike my tongue as complementary to smoke.

Coffee (which I enjoy but which I can't have too often, as it seems to disagree with my gut) on the other hand, when matched with tobacco (esp. orientals and latakia), is a pair that is more than the sum of its parts. Lovely.

At this time of year I like to pair light, german helles lagers, with light virginias and vapers. If I have a stronger vaper, I'll pair it with a heavier wheat beer or a dunkel. The light carbonisation and clove of these drinks make them wonderful palate cleansers, good for pairing with any heavier tobacco. Cigars I'm not so sure about, but I'm told they work well with American pale ales.

I'm mostly a coffee guy when it comes to pipes and if I go alcohol it's either a belgian beer/ale with virginia in the summers or a bourbon with pretty much anything.

I've have yet to delve into the world of cognac or brandy. Any one wanna list their favorites that's easily available in the states?

I don't drink much at all. It's been almost a year or longer. Honestly any alcohol straight with a pipe is pretty good in my opinion. Oddly I find the flavor profiles are better if opposite. Lighter tastes with heavier tobacco tastes and vice versa. For me that makes both just pop and less of a blur of sameness. I hate coffee and a pipe mostly because I like to already be awake before I have a pipe, with the one big exception being camping.

Coffee or tea indefinitely. While I love a good beer or whiskey, I don't usually pair with a pipe. No specific reason why, come to think of it....

I’ve taken to drinking iced tea (lightly sweetened, not southern sweet tea) or in the morning lightly sweetened iced coffee with my pipe. I don’t like drinking booze with my tobacco as I feel that the sharpness tends to strip my tongue and make me more receptive to bite.

I find pipe smoke far too delicate to stand up to anything stronger than a beer.
If I'm smoking a strong burley or dark fired blend I might go for a bourbon or port.

I enjoy whiskey and beer with pipe tobacco, and also with coffee, water, or certain sodas - it just depends on what blend I'm smoking as to which beverage I might choose. Light beers and sodas go nicely with Virginias, coffee with burley-based, maybe a darker beer or something stronger with stouter tobaccos like Gawith or DFK blends. I smoke outside, so the weather usually plays a part in the decision, as do my stress level and expectations of myself for the remainder the day.
But I don't find the combination of tobacco and alcoholic beverages to be particularly fatiguing or detrimental to my enjoyment of either one.

Madeira is quite good with a pipe. I also like a good beer, whisky, tea with a pipe. But, Madeira was the surprising stand out. Which reminds me…I’m out of Madeira.

Sherry finished Rye and Dark Flake non aro is excellent, or anything with a bbq note… Quiet Nights does really well. The whiskey pairing that destroyed the space time continuum for me was a Havana seed Foundation Tabernacle cigar and a New Riff sherry finished malted rye, I won’t have that bottle with anything else now. Hopefully they release it again this year, it’s a phenomenal rye.

Iced water, Guinness, black coffee are my beverages of choice to accompany a pipe.
