What's the difference between a Rhodesian and a Bulldog? (pipes not dog breeds)
(Edited title, please see rule number 9.

Thank you, Robert.)

I think you guys might have that backwards, Rhodesian's have the square shanks and bulldogs have the round ones.
:)
EDIT: Scratch that. I just looked at a few online and I'm seeing both Rhodesians and Bulldogs with square and round shanks on both. Hmmmm weird. :puffpipe:

The diamond/square shank vs. the rounded shank is a good rule of thumb when looking at a particular pipe.
Different carvers or companys will play with the shape and push the definition boundries, but the above is the general rule.

. . . carry the three . . . multiply by the number of rings . . .must all be bulldesians!
Tslex - seems more like which is a bigger caliber, a 380 or a 38 special?
Come on old Farts! We are confusing the newbies!
This Dunhill chart has both and both have diamond shanks.

Best I can tell from many images is that a Bulldog is halfway between a Billiard and a Rhodesian. That's my final answer!

mlaug has already stated what I've heard, and come to expect: bulldog/diamond and Rhodesian/round shank.

But I've also heard that bulldogs can only have a straight shank and stem; so a Rhodesian is any bent bulldog.

Go figure.

These two bulldogs will be added to my collection soon.

Oops, only one loaded. The other one is also a BC but it is smooth.

This one always causes a controversy, All-Be-It a friendly one. To my thinking a Bulldog shape has the square/diamond shank and a Rhodesian the round. But as unclearthur said, guess it's what ever the maker calls it. :)

I've taken to calling mine "Those ones over there that I smoke the Balkans in." The pipes seem to feel a little less self-conscious about their origins, that way. Of course, they still make fun of the churchwardens, but we've had a talk about that.
