I'd like to start a thread, telling us about the latest vintage tin you open. Doesn't matter how old, just some age on it, be it 2 years or 70. I'll start.
I couldn't decide what to smoke, too many options that get overwhelming at times.
So I opened some 30 year old Garfinkel Ridgeway, a nice full oriental. What a fantastic smoke. I have about 8 or 9 tins of this stuff, and I thoroughly enjoy it.
If you have the chance toget some, do yourself the favor, it's fantastic.
Edit: Corrected capitalization per Rule #9, L.

'07 3 Oaks Syrian and '07 Pease Ashbury both are excellent but I think the higher percentage of VA in the Ashbury really makes for a supreme aged smoke.

I recently opened a 2004 tin of GLPease's Raven's Wing, since the outside was showing signs of rust. Sure enough, the interior tin seal had completely rusted out, and the tobacco was as dry as dust. I've been slowly rehydrating it and taking sample bowls every day since then. It's not quite the Raven's Wing I remember -- it seems to be a bit softer, with less of that amazing Syrian floral quality I so enjoy -- but I'm surprised at how it's starting to revive.
On a side note, though: We're calling two-year-old tins "vintage"?!

Yes. I know it's not "vintage" but I figured some folks might only have tins that are 2 or 3 year old.
Just trying to not leave someone out. Maye we should start an "aged" thread, and leave this one for vintage tins.
Thoughts?

I have 5 year old tins of Best Brown, Dunhill Flake, and Red Ribbon open right now. The BBF is almost gone - then I'll have to open another.

How did the 5 years do the dunhill flake? I am curious to know whether it comes close to the old light flake?

St. Bruno

Several weeks ago I gotta hold of some 90's St. Bruno. The seal had been broken so it was quite dry, but rehydrated very nicely and I've been loving it! Although the example I got may not be best for evaluating what aging does to it, (I'd still like to find a tightly sealed tin just to find out exactly), but mine was a bit different from the fresh stuff in that more of the floral profile came out whereas the new is dominated by what some people call a bergamot profile, I think it's actually Musk & Coumarin, so over time that bold up-front flavor either had loss or simply became more integrated with all the other essences -- it's still a great smoke and just today I tried for the first time GH #7 Broken Flake which tasted fairly close to the old stuff although the St. Bruno is much stouter in strength, GH #7 is quite mild.
I ain't got enough loot to go crazy with buying the vintage stuff, but when I come across a good deal I usually try to scoop it up. My experience with the vintage stuff is pretty limited, but here's a few highlights from this last year...
