So I'm always looking for a birth year Dunny and lo and behold this comes up on the bay:

it certainly is striking. I wish it had been an estate though. I'm thinking it will go pretty high. what do you guys think would be the upper price range for this beast? Your thoughts are greatly appreciated. :)

I really like the blast grain on the left side, the blastgrain on the right not so much. It is a striking pipe, quite a prize in unsmoked condition. I'm not a huge fan of the Tanshells, I much prefer the shell briars......Its a sweet pipe for sure, My guess is it goes for 380-450 bucks.

Can't say about the price, are you looking specifically for a Churchwarden?

Not specifically a churchwarden. just something a little different for the birth year pipe. I'm thinking I may put in a bid at the end. Though if it hits my price earlier well the search will continue. My birthday is coming up soon and I'm getting itchy. However that happens every year and I can wait until the right one finds me. :)

I'd bet it will double where it's at right now in the last few hours, so, I'll say $600.

Testing my Dunhill dating skills, I'd say that's what? a 1958 pipe?. If so, that makes you 10 yrs younger than me.

That stem is probably as valuable as many pipes.
edit: oops...it's a 1968...not as old as I thought ya wuz.

That is an interesting and somewhat unusual piece. I suspect it will go somewhere between $450 and $600 . Treasurepipes is a quality seller. The auction ends somewhat early on a Sunday, which is a tiny advantage for getting a deal.
Have you ever smoked a Churchwarden style pipe?If you haven't smoked that style, this might not be a good time to test that shape. I acquired two last year and find them a bit awkward for regular use. Some folks love the shape.

Here's a 1968 LB Root Briar at a nice price. The rim char could be fixed.

This one's a tad overpriced.
