If you like that one it’s similar to Liga Privada which I believe is a notch or two stronger
I like a Liga every once in a while, but generally not enough to pay the price. I find the Papas Fritas offer the same flavors in a nice little petit corona size. They are made with the trimmings from the regular sizes, so they are not long filler, but I think they're just as good as the regular sizes.

There are some cigars that are magic:

Liga Privada 9
Avo XO
Padron 1926
My Father Le Bijou

What are yours?
I have had magical experiences with certain cigars, but they're pretty rare. Some that have given me that transcendent experience have been:

- Padron 1964 Principes
- Oliva Serie V Melanio
- Illusione Fume D' Amor (the robusto and lancero sizes)
- Tatuaje Black Label Cazadores
- Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure Especiales
- Montecristo No. 2

Love the Padron 1926 - the rolling is exemplary, perfect draw everytime.

The Cubans grow wonderful tobacco. Such a pity that their rolling is so inconsistent, even with their top vitolas. The numbers of Cohibas, Partagas I've had to toss because they were plainly unsmokeable or had a grossly uneven burn.

At the cheaper end, Oliva was another very dependable producer.

That's actually not quite as bad as I expected. I mean, $200+ for a single cigar is outrageous, but as you mention the taxes, only part of that is Habanos SA's shamelessness

How was it? I have not tried any of them yet.
Well, Cuba has had to catch up with the commercialism of the West. They need all the foreign exchange they can get. Hence the need to pump out those sticks and charge what the rest of the world is willing to fork out.

When I was buying cigars some time ago, I'd be lucky to find boxes with more than six months of age. I had to buy from a Swiss on-line retailer to get aged boxes. At least they stamped the release date on all their boxes. Boxes pre-2000 had codes which you could decode quite easily if you had access to the right site.

There are some brands people seem to think as lesser that are actually pretty darn good. Gurkha is one, too.
I don’t like Gurkha though- although I smoked through a bunch!

I like Rocky Patel in general, but this 1979 which to the best of my knowledge was a limited release with 40 year old tobacco, while exceptional does not get talked about a lot.

Man, this this was a monster. I've had a few of these in the past that weren't much to write home about, but this one packed a PUNCH. I'm actually dizzy.
I've had a few of those in the past but have been meaning to revisit it... Aside from the punch, was it good?

Smoking a Herrera Esteli Norteno with a Gaia Blend from Peets. I've got mixed feelings on their cigars, but you gotta give Drew Estate credit for their marketing and design being on point. Love the bands on these.

It was very good, which was also a surprise. The ones that I've had before were just boring. This one was very rich & earthy, with occasional coffee bean, black pepper & baking spice; but the core was a rich earth. The burn was awful though, every one I've had has had burn issues. Before I lit it though this thing smelled like a fudge brownie. Delicious, but it didn't come through in the smoke. Oh well. The power came in two spots, the middle of the first third hit like a hammer and out of nowhere. I actually had to slow way down. Then once again at the beginning of the final third and that lasted until I finished. I'd eaten lunch shortly before, so it wasn't on an empty stomach. Maybe I was just smoking it fast, because I was really enjoying it. I don't think I'd buy a box, but I'll definitely but a few more.

Oh, BTW, in case anyone is wondering, since the label is hard to read, it was a La Antiguedad toro.

Nat Sherman 1930 Gran Robusto. I got this stick as part of a sampler that I won from JR Cigar. Relegated these to lawn mowing smokes. This one surprised me. It was a damn quality smoke. I looked it up and it was a 5.25 x 54 DR/DR/with DR and Nic filler produced at the Quesada factory and they retail for about $245/box(24). The cigar was full flavored with just the right amount of spice and complexity. It would make a great sit down smoke. I would have guessed it had Honduran lineage from the strength. Definitely worth a do over. Alas, it is discontinued and JR is sold out...
