Inspired by @BenMN on Friday, I’m having a Dapper Desvalido Disla Lonsdale

IMG_6326.jpeg

I had never heard of this one before; I received it in a BL Luxuries blind buy, and honestly didn’t expect much. The draw is a little tight, but the aroma and flavor are very pleasant. I really like this one.

Edit: notes of flame-broiled beef! This one’s a winner!

What a nice surprise, glad you enjoyed it

Sounds like you want some Arturo Fuente goodness: they’re pretty easy to find. I can’t taste mild cigars, but have gotten cedar notes from Chateau Fuente, Hemingway…actually, Hemingway is a good way to go. Curly Head Natural (regular and deluxe) are both good, and cheap. I’ve never had a bad Fuente.

I had an Ashton Cabinet the other night, and got distinct cedar from that too. It was very pleasant.

La Aroma de Cuba Connecticut is also one of my favorites. That and Gran Habano Connecticut are two of the tastier CTs I’ve ever had.

I hope that you’re able to find something good!

Thanks for the recommendations. I will look for those and let you know how I make out. I usually fly by the seat of my pants when it comes to cigars. It is good to be able to come here for advice.

Wow, talk about being forgetful. I took this pic Friday, my tupperdor and a San Cristobal Quintessence Robusto I started on.

IMG_2223.jpeg

Today I’m still having at it, and it’s still tasting mighty fine too.

Be well everyone! 🤙 ❤️

P.S. I must be going off on the deep end. LOL 😝 I have a pipe going over in the Pipe WAYs and this cigar at the same time. 😮

Last night:
Bought a sampler of El Titan de Bronze coronas. This one was unremarkable, but if I drew very slowly, I got some nice floral aromas. I may have overfired it on lighting. I’m tossing the torch lighters!

Tonight:

La Tradicion Cubana natural toro,
Very smooth and aromatic so far. Perfect draw, even burn.

Your pics didn’t show up… 🤔

I like this video how Eddie slowly lights. I like soft flames for cigars, but then, when I started out they didn’t have torch lighters, so I’ve never considered/liked the idea.

P.S. The pics finally showed up… :)

To fit in with the New England theme of your trip, I'd suggest the Charter Oak CT. They are quite nice, and an excellent value. Especially for a cigar that uses a true Connecticut Shade wrapper as opposed to the Connecticut seed wrappers grown in Ecuador, which are more common. I'm not saying true Connecticut wrappers are inherently better than Ecuadorian Connecticut, they're just rarer and tend to be more expensive.

The Chateau Fuente line also uses true CT wrappers. They're a bit mild for my tastes but very good quality and available everywhere.

Thanks, I will put the Charter Oaks on my list along with Fuente.

The wife and I are on vacation visiting our families in Maine. We are staying at my cousins camp on a lake. (can you hear the loons calling?) I had planned on packing a few pipes, but at the last minute remembered I had these Macanudo’s in with my tobacco stash. I figured it would be easier, and left the pipes at home.

Not a bad smoke, to my unrefined palate. I will hit a smoke shop tomorrow in the nearby “city” and pick up a few bigger cigars.

Any recommendations for someone who usually prefers mild to medium Connecticut? Something with a hint of cedar, but not too peppery. I doubt the selection will be too exotic around here.

Hope you have a great time at the lake

Crowned Heads Mil Días Marranitos (2023 LE)

I bought a 12- box of these back in April. They have an Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper in place of the usual Mil Días Habano. Flavors are great but I've had consistent burn issues. Nothing major, but moderately annoying- tight, constricted draw related I'm pretty sure. I've tried lowering RH (with a couple months stabilization time), drilling with perfectdraw, and leaving on dresser in low RH for a few hours. Maybe I need to "dry box" one for a day or 2... or more?

6 down...
they definitely have potential

No idea what the hell a Frank Llaneza is, but it was in the clearance box so I grabbed it and lit it up. Enjoyed with a local beer from Liability Brewing here in Greenville.

Frank Llaneza was a legend in the tobacco industry and was responsible for the resurgence of high quality cigars in the ’90s—brands like Hoyo de Monterrey, Punch, and Bolivar wouldn’t exist without him. Look up Villazon and its history and you’ll see what an impact he had on the cigar world.

Explains why it was so damned good. Makes me wonder why they put it in clearance at all, since aging only improves quality.

Oh, and... just tried my first Perdomo last night.

Hoyo D.M Double Corona

Cigar with impeccable draw and construction, very good among other things, fat and opulent

I’m thrilled to see you back! And with perhaps, my favourite cigar of all time.
