Well, today is a special day for me. If my dad were still living, he would be 98 years old today. Sadly, we lost him in 2014. He was in the U. S. Army and one of the photos below show him wearing a hooded, water-proof coat while crossing the Atlantic aboard a ship, near the end of WWII.
Great reflection. My dad (passed '92) would be 100 this coming Sept (1925). I remember he had 2 stinky old Falcon pipes in the garage. No idea whatever happened to them, but I'd love to have them today, to clean up & smoke.
The pic is meaningful to me, since I did 3 years US Army. But the thought of crossing the Atlantic aboard a ship? No, no, no. Motion sickness would do me in. Never did rides at the State Fair. And as a kid on a ride in the car, worst thing was to kneel on the back seat looking out the rear window. OMG ... smoking a big black cheap cigar wouldn't have given me worse "spins". Gangster movies where somebody is grabbed, tied up & thrown into the trunk which is slammed shut while they then drive around for hours, fast turns, quick stops ... absolutely horrific to imagine.
