On a hunch, I tried the loose two pack rather than a half-bowl in quest of avoiding a super-long smoke, as outlined in my last post. I put in a gravity feed loose two pack (taught to me by a forum member to whom I'm very grateful) of
TobaccoBarn's Coastal Cruise, a very mild English type of tobacco, one of the mildest in my stores. i put the tobacco in my
Rhodesian Brigham, an entry level pipe with a great draw and one of the most comfortable pipes in the hand I've ever felt. The bowl is large, about the same capacity as my
Savinelli Avorio, but doesn't have quite as deep a trench. The loose pack I use takes about roughly 5/8 the tobacco as the standard three pack milkshake draw we all started with, probably, eh?
The short of it is that I had a terrific smoke and stopped at roughly an hour. Could have streched it out some more but . . . nahhh, it's what I wanted. Perfect for the evening, and this method really gives maximum flavour to the fodder and saves a lot of tobacco to boot.
This is the way I'll go with the big guns, methinks! unless I'm listening to an opera or a moronic sci-fi or dubbed Chinese Kung Fu flick from the 70s. Got to grow up one day, eh? But not today!
By the way, if you're looking for a great smoking cheap pipe that takes a lot of abuse, have a boo at this line! I got mine for $57 plus shipping from Smokin'Pipes and the last time I checked, they were the same, but that was a while ago. Bargoon!!
