Smoking some 2016 Gawith Hoggarth Bosun Plug in a Falcon Extra with a Bantam Dublin bowl tonight.

Bosun Plug and Cut Plug are probably the strangest and most perplexing blends I've ever smoked, because even after smoking them half a dozen times I still can't decide whether I like them or think they're kind of vile. The base dark fired Imperial Virginia tobaccos with a hint of Burley are great, and I really like the added clove extract too, but the rose geranium never seems to sit terribly well with my palate and I can't decide whether it sort of works with the blend or if it just makes me a little nauseous.

I managed to get my hands on some 9 year aged Bosun Plug and hoped that maybe the rose geranium flavor would have faded after nearly a decade in a jar, but nope, it's still just as strong as it is in this year's batch of Bosun. I'm fairly certain that rose geranium essence Gawith uses will outlast both cockroaches and Twinkies if the apocalypse ever comes. At least it cellars well, I guess? 😅

Passing the half way mark of this bowl of year 2012 Carter Hall in a black rusticated medium bend 2021 Peterson POTY 4AB No. 437/500 military mount with a silver cap and a tapered black vulcanite AB stem. Fed all four ferals. Abner the Eager most certainly was all of that when I went outside. Like he did this afernoon, Abner ran to me with a very happy look on his face. I brought him in, and he ate much more than usual. He's snoozin' on m'lady's chair. Daisy the Feral Princess is laying on the floor. The two are outside after eating. I'll end the day with this smoke.

Morning, all... been a mad busy couple of months here. Yesterday on the Heritage Farm was a slack day, mostly rain with few visitors (getting all the rain this June we didn't have in May), so got some leisure time sheltering in the gardener's bothy with some Messrs. Cornell & Diehl's lovely House Reserve in this 1890s little one-piecebriar with an orific bit.1000000474.jpg

Smoker Friendly (Sutliff) Vanilla in a perfect condition oxblood colored ancient, oil cured, aged, unstained, unvarnished, and unpainted Algerian briar Bertram 3/4 bent made by a crippled soldier under the shadow of the Capitol dome in Washington D.C.

This is an ungraded, not numbered, generic Bertram. It has no fills. It might be fifty or might be one hundred years old. With each smoke it colors a little darker all over the entire surface of the briar.
