No, just the opposite. I fill the bowl and shank and let it swish from one to other for about 20-30 seconds then rinse with water as normal. I find it removes the oils and gunk easier.

Hitting the lounge for some relaxation this evening with some newly opened Dark Moor in a Kevin Arthur nosewarmer.
Inspired by @JimInks post yesterday I believe it was, I cleaned up a Peterson Dublin 3 medium bulldog and stuffed in some C&D XXV Dusk.
Unfortunately, I should’ve fully gone over the pipe, not just sanitizing it as the stem went to tan, nasty oxidation when exposed to saliva and kinda put a damper on the smoke…I’ve never been known for my patience.

I'm having John Bull True English, this time in the Country Gentleman. Seems to be a fine match, so far.

I'm paying more attention these days to which blends work/smoke/taste better in which pipes. I always thought the differences were more due to my own day-to-day variables of taste-buds, packing, cadence etc, but I'm really beginning to understand there are better and worse pipe/tobacco matches.

F&T Evans Blend in the Washington cob again. Tonight it's paired with a delicious Deer Brown ale from June Lake Brewing from a four-pack brought to me from the brewery by a true friend who was camping up in Mammoth Lakes recently.
Haunted Bookshop Cake with a pinch of MacBaren Virginia Flake that was leftover from packing last nights bowl. Smoking it in a Pete SPD 2011 69.

Earlier, I smoked a bowl of 1990s Edgeworth Ready Rubbed in a medium bend dark brown 2017 Don Warren 17 smooth straight grain rough top Dublin with a multi-brown cumberland stem and ferrule in the military mount style. The orignal Edgeworth is all this pipe has ever seen.
Currently, I'm almost a third of the way through this bowl of year 2016 Sutliff 507-C Slices in a black sandblast PSB medium bend 2021 Peterson POTY 4AB No. 228/500 military mount with a silver cap and a tapered black vulcanite AB stem. Fed three ferals and my cats.

The carbs are reassembled and tomorrow will remount and try to start 'er up. The throttle spindle seals had definitely perished. Also, the last setting on the carbs was WAY RICH, set before I got the vacuum advance properly setup.. Timing adjusting will be necessary along with all the rest. Good thing I have until Saturday!

Did some low calorie snacking, and have a third of a bowl left of year 2014 Edgeworth Ready Rubbed Match in a 1984 medium bend black grain etched Savinelli Non Pareil 9310 pokerish dublin with a horn ferrule and a black vulcanite flared stem.
Now smoking year 2014 Esoterica Tilbury in a straight smooth Danish gold straight grain undated W.O. Larsen Hand Made in Denmark dublin with a tapered black vulcanite stem. This pipe is from the estate of David Cuneo.
The Pete3’s stummel is now reamed and cleaned, and stem is deoxidized.
Didn’t have time to fully hand polish stem, but I do kind of like a semi-gloss finish on some of my pipes’ stems, we’ll see.
Too late for another smoke, so a pinch of sweet snuff and off to bed.
