Another cool morning, today with Peretti 111 in the Larus & Brother Signature Dublin. No evening smoke last night due to being literally "smoked out" by the Old Man Lake fire on Vancouver Island, BC. Clear around here now though it's still going, along with over 400 other fires in BC right now..!

Took 2 bags of blister packs to Bakewell for recycling; had a look at the knight effigies in the church. Got 2 stamps towards a free hot chocolate at Baslow & got bought a pint of John Smith's Bitter today. Special Virginia in Ye Olde Clay; it dates back to 1770 so is very well suited to clay pipes!

A third of a bowl left of pre-2014 Edward G. Robinson's Pipe Blend in a 2014 Basil Meadows smooth slight bend squashed tomato with an aluminum band and a black pearl acrylic stem in the military mount style. Just fed the ferals, and my cats. Looks like my walking reps will be rained out. Watching Mad Dog Russo. Ice water and bergs is my drink.

Sutliffpalooza blending experiment today:

515RC-1, 507 S, and Red Virginia Ribbon with a pinch of Hazelnut (10%).

I did taste test of RVR vs 515RC a while back (I can’t find the thread I posted about it), but long story short I thought 515RC had a very nice sweet fruity tang, but WAY too much vinegar on it. RVR was less sweet, no vinegar, bready, and had a seriously stout spice kick to it that was really nice. IMO, RVR with a bit of chopped up 507 stoved in it for some sweetness is far superior to 515RC.

This mix is pretty good, but next time I’m gonna use twice as much RVR as 515 (this is equal). The 507S and hazelnut are plenty sweet, and it needs more of that RVR spice and ooomph.

Close to finishing this bowl of year 2000 VaPer Three Nuns in a 2003 medium bend straight grain Viggo Nielsen freehand dublin sitter with a cumberland saddle stem. Thought I'd give the 1938 Dunhill a day of rest. Lunch follows this smoke.

The rain stopped long enough for me to get in a set of walking reps, and I'm close to finishing this bowl of year 2016 D&R Three Sails in an undated straight brush etched black Molina apple with a nickel band and a tapered black vulcanite stem. Harry the Hairy begged for attention, so I sat on the lounge chair, and he quickly jumped on to my lap. Wish he was willing to get along with the other cats.

Grouse Moore in a huge Ardor sapphire. I don't smoke this pipe much because the handball size bowl is intimidating. I can jam two fingers all the way down to my first knuckles. It smokes itself so any draw starts to generate steam. The smoke just plays over the tongue as long as I don't do anything more than think about a draw.
