***What Are You Smoking, February 2025?***

Smoking now a self made cigar mix, one of the two variations I make. In the "last of the Falcons" meaning the last piece, or more accurately the last stem-bowl combination, in the Falcon phase of my pipe rotation. Next and coming is the Corn Cobs phase, the one I love the most, I could smoke exclusively only with corn cob pipes.
I very much enjoy these quiet Saturday nights at home, when most of the people go out. I am relaxed, not tired (because of a nice long nap earlier in the day) and having some good time - without watching the clock or having closing eyebrows- with myself. I did have my share of partying till late for decades, now I prefer this.

Ironic that you, with such a collection, should say this. But . . . . maybe not so. . . . .

As a retired concertmaster of 4 orchestras, I now teach and demonstrate to my students on a Strad replica worth at most $500 bucks. Gave my concert instrument (a Giovanni Cavani) worth probably $200,000 or more at todays' prices, to a gifted student upon retirement. And that el-cheapo student instrument responds and matches in almost all respects the Cav. I'd certainly play a Mozart Concerto, Paganini Caprices or Sarasate stuff in public with it; wouldn't be my choice for the Beethoven, Bartok or Brahms concertos, though it would squeek through - Cavani had great depth).

So I revel in your comment . . . . the public think that "tone" is what a professional looks for in a fiddle. Not so. Response, projection, and neutrality, so you can control the tone and timbre with point of contact and bow speed, is far more critical. Tone is manufactured by the skilled player. But we don't deprive the public of their myths lol. Makes for good copy.

Now smoking year 2012 Esoterica Dunbar in a smooth straight, dark brown early 1960s Lane era Charatan Selected 43 Dublin with a black vulcanite double comfort saddle stem. This pipe was formerly owned by actor William Conrad.

Getting ready to watch UFC Fight Night 252, Henry Cejudo vs. Yadong Song, live from Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle. Having Cornell & Diehl Small Batch Folklore (2022, 805/1000) in an unbranded, unmarked, Magnum-sized Swan Neck LC (Large Curve) with a horn stem with an orific bit; this pipe is most likely French in origin, and may be from the late 19th or early 20th Century—it is curve/step drilled, has a bone tenon, and a cork mortise. I picked up five of these Muxiang Churchwarden pipe stands via AliExpress and they’re working out nicely with my gargantuan pipes.



Today, I just received my complimentary copies of a book I designed (also did the cover illustration). Very happy with the production. The book is based on interviews my late friend, Paul Nelson, did with Leonard Cohen and Lucinda Williams, edited by my friend, Kevin Avery.

Last night, I left some fresh GH&Co Black Twist (sliced) out to dry a bit, then forgot about it until this morning-just this side of crispy.
It smoked very nicely in the Kriswell Golden Clipper “Danedog” after losing about 8% of its moisture.
I had to walk Bob around to show him his sister wasn’t here, poor guy didn’t even lay down last night-he just kept whinnying and pacing in his stall…
Then got called in again to work, and still had the Kriswill on me, this time it was GH&Co Aniseed Twist.
Only two smokes so far, the midget left me with whatever bug he had kicking his little butt Monday.
