A bit of a change of pace this morning. My wife left out for a trip back to Louisville, KY. to visit friends and family so I am "baching" it for a for a couple of days. After rounding up the horses for fly spray and inspection, I grabbed a few essentials, jumped in the Jeep and headed to Columbia, TN. to Briarworks Pipe store. Not many folks there which is a big contrast to the other times I have visited when they have the Muletown Pipe show, each March. These shows are just crammed full of visitors....

I brought my recently purchased Roush Poker and showed it to them. They knew Larry Roush and had nothing but the greatest of respect and admiration for him and his work. So @Briarcutter , you have many fans down in middle Tennessee.

I looked at their pipes, but the pickin's were slim as the inventory was down, but I did buy a couple of jars of their blends. I loaded my pipe with some "Back Down South" which is a very nice VaPer and enjoyed a Yuengling lager while taking in the atmosphere. I continued my smoke as I drove back home. All in all a nice time and a break in the routine.

Started the day with Five Brothers and onto my second bowl of Sun Bear Black Locust 2024 in a Tekin meerschaum. It’s windy outside today and that’s why I bring a meerschaum when I go out.

Smoking this makes me remember a video I watched on YouTube by Timbrdrifter. He was smoking some Sun Bear Tupelo and said he would like a pallet of that to smoke. Yep! Whatever tobaccos are lost forever I am sure glad Mr. Reeves and C&D are still around.

Late start to my smoking day; did not get more than a couple puffs this morning because I was walking dogs in the rain. After the rain I traded many dogs for one, and he and I wrapped up his second walk today with Special Guest Dread Pirate Roberts filled with Haunted Bookshop CakeIMG_6668.jpeg
After the walk, it was back to the desk, where I enjoyed another bowl of Haunted Bookshop Cake in my Peterson Donegal Rocky 103 billiard.

Now I am working my way through the second half of this bowl of Purple Cow in this Missouri Meerschaum BWC#3

Pretty ding dang excited to be done with work for today! I’m thinking I’ll get into something extremely uncomplicated and easy to smoke this afternoon and evening. Hope everyone is well today, I know north Texas got some heavy rain early this morning, at least we didn’t lose any trees but boy howdy was the thunder crashing!

I'd be curious to know what your favorite personal blends are and what the recipes are, if you don't mind sharing? You can PM me if you'd prefer.
There are several with lengthy ingredients. 3 quick examples for yas, since i'm not sure what your tobaccos of choice are (from oldest to newest):

1. "Pease Punch" -- 25g 2008 Cumberland, 23g 2013 Laurel Heights, 18g 2010 Montgomery, 22g 2006 Filmore and then the punch: 15g 2024 HH Rustica

2. "Evening Aperitif" -- 25% FVF Burnt Ends, 25% Ryback, 20% Evening Flake, 15% FVF, 15% C&D Granulated Perique for a nice V forward smoke with a little burley and Kentucky for body/depth and perique to enhance complexity. Aptly titled, since i love this for a before-dinner bowl.

3. "Mars Lander" -- 40% HU Old Fredders, 35% C&D Winchester and 25% Savinelli Jupiter. I also did one called "Mars Orbiter" just because the blend was centered around a red VA base, but this is the fuller flavored of the two and is, therefore, my preference.

Keeping it fun!

Smoking some Boswell North Wood in the Blatter - reading a good book and hanging with the chipmunk!View attachment 410359
This chippy pic belongs in @Chasing Embers "Morning Coffee Companion" thread. If only i was a mod... ;)

Moving on to a bowl of HU Dockworker in a Luigi Viprati wire rusticated poker while contemplating picking up some light lumber for a planter box / pergola project for my mom's garden. Or i may just sit here, smoke and put it in the planner for tomorrow. Hard to motivate in the afternoon.

Impressive! So you're not just using components, but blending blends and adding blending components. I imagine that's some real complexity!

Not far from finishing this bowl of year 2012 Rolando’s Own in a smooth straight 1960s Lane era “William Conrad” Charatan Executive Extra Large stretch apple with diagonal channel cuts on the lower right and left of the bowl along with a black vulcanite double comfort saddle stem. Ice water and bergs is my drink.
