EDIT: Fixed Capitalization in Title (See Rule 9) - Bob

I was started off on some Dunhills and I purchased some Esoterica and Peterson blends. I also know that Samuel Gawith and Germain are ones to keep an eye out for. But as far the sort of thing that will be readily available aside from C&D and Peterson, what are some brands I should be checking out? So far, Early Morning Pipe has been my favorite of the readily available stuff I've found, and Pembroke by Esoterica is probably my favorite that I've tried period.

It really depends on your tastes. If you can get 1 oz samplers, I'd go that route.

Anyway, since you asked for suggestions: MacBaren Vanilla Cream, MacBaren Original Choice, and MacBaren 7 Seas (Royal, Black, and Regular).
I have been curious about the MacBaren 7 Seas blends. I managed to get ahold of the MacBaren Burley they did a little while ago and found it enjoyable, but wasn't sure where to go from there, and considering how many different tins they have available, I wasn't sure where to start. The black kind of caught my eye, so I'll likely lean that route. Thanks again for the advice!

What I'm smoking now, Red Rapparee from Rattray. Old Gowrie is also worth trying. Exotique from Smokers Haven is a classic, as well as Tashkent from Peretti.

I'll bring you samples of MacB Original Choice and Vanilla Cream. I was given some by an awesome forum member! Also some sutliff matured red 515. I have way too many open tins and jars right now!

I was just reading the "If I Knew Then What I Know Now" before this and here something that's relevant:

There's an obvious tendency among new pipe smokers to chase names, and that's totally understandable. But like someone already mentioned earlier I would recommend getting a huge variety of 1 Oz loose leafs from one of the major online retailers. That way you can develop an actual understanding on the different ingredients.

Let's put it this way, instead of asking for people to recommend dishes you might enjoy, it's better to have an understanding of spices and which ones you appreciate. That way you can start to judge for yourself which ones you'll like and which ones you won't.

At the risk of publicizing a competing website, there is a list of "Gold Standard Blends" that sablebrush52, among others, helped create. It's a good starting point and if you Google the quoted phrase, you should be able to find it.

I’ll second Escudo, Capstan Blue flake, & Orlik Golden sliced. Those three make up about 75% of my pipe smoking!
