Ok, post a recipe and description, story, or whatever… as long as liquor is involved.

I’ve been playing with Old Fashioned recipes, because the Old Fashioned is the ORIGINAL cocktail.

I had this once in Amarillo, TX, and it has been a go to for Mrs Cosmic and me.

A Smokey Mezcal

1 oz Mezcal- my favorite is Casamigos
1 oz tequila ańejo- my fav is Cazadores
.5 oz agave syrup
A dash of orange bitters
Shake on ice for 40 seconds
Pour into glass
Add one sliver of candied orange peel
And one dirty cherry
Or a slice of jalapeno

Best with a latakia blend for the full smokey experience.

Ahhhhhh…

What’s yours?

That sounds delicious. I like tequila and I drink old fashioneds in one form or another all winter so I’ll have to give your recipe a try. However, once the weather warms up in spring through summer I switch to gin and tonic. Pretty simple mix- usually Tanqueray or Botanist gin with tonic and lime in a Collins glass with crushed ice. I switch up the brand of tonic I use to keep it interesting. I like Q, Schweppes, Fever Tree or Topo Chico.

Up until i was 30, it was a

Duck Fart

Layered un a shot glass
1/3 Crown Royal on top of
1/3 Baileys Irish Cream on top of
1/3 Kahlua

Now it's just 3 fingers of a decently peaty scotch (Ardbeg, Laphroig, Lagsvulin, etc) with one tiny ice Cube to open it up.
Not sure it’s a cocktail but it’s pretty hard to beat Lagavulin with a single cube.

I’m a simple man. My mixer of choice is a classic gin and tonic, especially in the summer. Basically:

2oz gin-dry or herbal depending on my mood
One can Fevertree tonic (I don’t screw around with the basic bitch stuff like Schweppes)
Two ice cubes and splash of lime, or if I’m feeling fancy I’ll buy the fruit and slice it up giving a chunk a good squeeze into the drink.

In winter I’m usually craving some sort of bourbon, either neat or the rocks.

I also like Ranch Water:

In a tall glass:

Ice cubes of whatever variety you like

2 or 3 ozs of Tequila-most recipes call for tequila blanco, but I find a good reposado adds some nuance to the drink. I would not use an anejo at all.

1 bottle of Topo Chico mineral water if you can get it. I’ve used other mineral waters and they’re fine, but Topo Chico is what I prefer

Add a squeeze of lime to top it off.

It’s a great drink in the summer as I find I’m drinking more water than booze and so if I o er do it I’m not feeling like a train hit me the following morning.

Jack Rose.
0.5 oz Grenadine
1 oz Lime Juice
1.5 oz Calvados (I like Claque Pepin or a low-pear Domfrontais style, but mostly use Berneroy because the local stores don't carry Claque)

Shake very thoroughly with ice, you want to have little ice flecks floating in your drink. Strain into martini glass.
To my mind, it's a perfect balance of sour and sweet.

Another which I remember fondly but haven't made for quite some time was the De Rigueur, which I made with rye.
2 oz Rye
1 oz each of Honey and Grapefruit Juice

I also make an old fashioned I call Tokyo Bitter

2oz Toki Japanese whiskey
1oz red grapefruit juice
A dash of grapefruit bitters

Shaken over ice, of course…

Served with a slice of grapefruit

The red grapefruit is sweet and adds another dimension to the Toki whiskey.

It drinks really smooth, so be careful. You don’t want to be looking for your pants the next morning in your neighbor’s shrubbery.

Recently I have been drinking what I believe us called Repo Benedictine Manhattan.

2 oz Reposado Tequila (been using various, but Jaguar or Siete Leguas is good)
1 oz Benedictine
Splash of Angstora Bitters

Pour with ice, shake 40 times, strain into a Glencairn glass.

Discovered this around Christmas and been drinking it since. Really good take on a Tequila Manhattan.

My favorite drink after beer is a nice scotch with a little ice. But my favorite cocktail is the classic Negroni.

I make it with one part gin, one part campari, and one part vermouth.

Sometimes if I'm feeling frisky I'll sub the campari for a different amaro or Cynar but I don't know if it's still technically a Negroni then. Delicious either way.
