If it’s an ongoing issue, and attempts to remedy fail, then you may want to try one of Peterson’s or Savinelli’s dry system pipes. They have a separate reservoir/chamber to collect moisture.

Not so much, but I think pipe smoking can get your salivary glands going, exciting the taste and smell. I think when you've been smoking a while, your body adjusts and knows you are not sitting down to a tasty meal as such. The rest of the moisture is generated by condensation in the burning leaf, usually.
