I saw a nice Wessex Author on eBay, but have never heard of the marque before. Anyone have any thoughts?

I think there were a few variations/manufacturers of Wessex pipes. If it has a Cumberland stem and brown blast ( and I think a blue/silver dot stem logo) they were excellent pipes with hand cut stems and came in 5 or 6 Classic English shapes. I think they cost about $75-$85 at the time.

Sounds good. The Wessex is an author, reasonably priced. I've never had an author before and wanted to try out one without blowing the bank. Thanks, gents.

All I've heard has been affirmative. Solid moderately priced pipes, as near as I can tell. I have authors by Luciano, Peterson, and arguably Kaywoodie (Drinkless), and all, including the stinger Drinkless, are good smokers with good broad bowls without excess weight.

Have a Wessex Bravo, had been sitting in local B&M’s display case for years. Finally I talked him into selling it to me for $25. It has a bunch of fills but it’s a damn good smoker!10152
