This is a Wessex bent brandy, I believe the style is correct. It is a Klein design, made in France, number 162 if you're scoring at home and it's a terrific pipe. Well drilled and the briar is very hard, the way I like it. The problem, if that's what it is, is that the rim is uneven and retains some char even though I've used everything but a jackhammer to remove it. So the question -- what's the best way to level off the rim, what should I use. I keep hearing pipe mud, which I've not used but might consider. And, if course, there's always the option of leaving well enough alone. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I’ll make it a unanimous three - Just leave it the way it is. It’s an the estate pipe correct? Anything you might do to remove that char will require reshaping the rim and then trying to match the stain to the rest of the pipe. Pretty hard to do. It’s a gorgeous pipe; it has seen some use and has some great years left.
enjoy it!
