Vinegar And Water

Has anyone tried using vinegar and water to remove old wax and grime off of an estate pipe?
I don't want to take off too much stain, I just want to clean it up and re wax it. It is an old Dr Grabow Regal that is going to probably be a workhorse daily driver type of pipe.

Diluted wood soap.

I use very diluted wood soap and a clean rag. Some people will go all crazy about the smell, but if you dilute it enough it will not stay on the pipe. I stuff the bowl full of cotton balls and the shank with a q-tip just to make sure.

If I need soap I use a tiny drip of dish soap. ?
