Cigrmaster - Good clarification that is important to pay attention to. I see on a website that Reiner also has pipes, but I've never actually seen an Reiner pipe for sale. If they smoke as good as the tobacco, I'd consider it worthwhile to hunt one down. The e-mail contact on the site is listed with rl will in the name, so it seems like it comes from the famous tobacco blender.
It's too bad the white burley keeps you away from Long Golden Flake. That's one of my top flakes. A lot of people complain about it, and while it's not a perique blend, I also really like Dunhill's light flake. Old or new. I don't understand what all of the fuss is about concerning the supposedly degraded quality of dunhill. Their flake is a great blend, in my opinion. It's certainly worth a try.
I have had a question about Long Golden Flake for awhile now. Last year, I was in Germany and the shop near me didn't have any blends I was interested in. Because of a language barrier, the owner got out his tobacco catalogue and I found the Long Golden Flake tin (Blend 71). The description beside it said that there was an added "orange essence". That completely threw me off. I've never detected an essence of anything but that nice tobacco smell that comes from a quality virginia flake. It's not listed on the tin either. Where is the orange? I thought that maybe it was a misprint in the catalogue. The description was clearly matched to the right blend, and written in English, but I couldn't believe my eyes. I ordered it anyway, because I love the stuff, but I have to say that the thought of orange essence, or any essence at all, would normally see me pass on a blend. I'm curious if anyone else has ever seen the reference to orange in Long Golden Flake. It must be a misprint. I know it wasn't me, because the tins were in one column and the descriptions were in the matching column, with guidelines so that there was no doubt. The other blends matched the descriptions too.
What gives?
