When delving into the world of Vapers, one must begin with the classic of classics, Escudo. It is the Vaper in which all others are judged by. Once you start there, then you can branch out.
I have smoked countless Vapers and I stock only 4.
Escudo

Solani 633

Dunhill Deluxe Navy Rolls

Samuel Gawith St James Flake
Now if I could handle Red Virginia's my list would grow big time.
GL Pease Haddo's Delight

Two Friends Redwood

Rattray's Hal O The Wind

Dorchester

Treasures of Ireland Limerick

You may want to have a look at Reiner's Long Golden Flake (also known as blend 71, depending on the tin you get) as it is pretty high quality leaf. It comes in a very nice tin, which can also hold leftover paint, should you need to do so. It's made from the same house as Solani, which was recommended above. Also very good stuff!
I've smoked a massive range of VaPers over the years, and those two blends really stand out. Always a consistent quality, for me anyway, and they just taste good. Straight out of the tin, no hassle, highest quality. Good luck!

+1 on Peter Stokkebye's Luxury Navy Flake and Orlik Golden Sliced. I haven't opened my tin yet, but

Dunhill's Elizabethan (despite its name sounding like an English blend) is also well liked.

orlik golden sliced is one more of the go-to's.
This once again brings up the controversy of whether this blend has perique or burley. It goes back to at least 2002, when reviewers on tobaccoreviews.com were sparring over whether it had perique or not.
I suppose one way to find out is to get someone highly allergic to perique to smoke some and tell us if their throat constricts.

My thought exactly as I was reading your post LOL

I would agree that just a hint of this or that doesn't make an otherwise-VA blend something else. The 2% latakia in Laurel Heights is a prime example, as is McClelland's VA No 24, which has a little bit of drama leaf. Both still VA blends to me.
I would still say that it's interesting to know what leaves are actually in a blend, and that Orlik Golden Sliced is a prime example of this.

unadoptedlamp, R. Will who blends the Reiner is one of my favorite blenders. He is the man behind Solani. I have tried smoking the Long Golden a bunch of times but the white Burley in it for some reason is off putting to me. It is such a beautiful flake to look at that I really want to love it but no can do.
I am of the opinion that Orlik Golden has zero perique in it. I have smoked it fresh, I have smoked it with 15 years of age and I have never detected even a hint of perique in it.

I've been slowly working thought he VaPer Throwdown list. Thus far, I can recommend:
McClelland's St James Woods

McConnell's Scottish Cake

Escudo

MacBaren HH Acadian Perique

C&D First Responders
All of the above are freaking delicious.

My first VaPer that got me to switch almost exclusively to VaPers was 4Noggins Prairie Wind. That was about two and a half years ago, I still smoke it regularly.

Cigrmaster - Good clarification that is important to pay attention to. I see on a website that Reiner also has pipes, but I've never actually seen an Reiner pipe for sale. If they smoke as good as the tobacco, I'd consider it worthwhile to hunt one down. The e-mail contact on the site is listed with rl will in the name, so it seems like it comes from the famous tobacco blender.
It's too bad the white burley keeps you away from Long Golden Flake. That's one of my top flakes. A lot of people complain about it, and while it's not a perique blend, I also really like Dunhill's light flake. Old or new. I don't understand what all of the fuss is about concerning the supposedly degraded quality of dunhill. Their flake is a great blend, in my opinion. It's certainly worth a try.
I have had a question about Long Golden Flake for awhile now. Last year, I was in Germany and the shop near me didn't have any blends I was interested in. Because of a language barrier, the owner got out his tobacco catalogue and I found the Long Golden Flake tin (Blend 71). The description beside it said that there was an added "orange essence". That completely threw me off. I've never detected an essence of anything but that nice tobacco smell that comes from a quality virginia flake. It's not listed on the tin either. Where is the orange? I thought that maybe it was a misprint in the catalogue. The description was clearly matched to the right blend, and written in English, but I couldn't believe my eyes. I ordered it anyway, because I love the stuff, but I have to say that the thought of orange essence, or any essence at all, would normally see me pass on a blend. I'm curious if anyone else has ever seen the reference to orange in Long Golden Flake. It must be a misprint. I know it wasn't me, because the tins were in one column and the descriptions were in the matching column, with guidelines so that there was no doubt. The other blends matched the descriptions too.
What gives?

unadoptedlamp, I once owned a pipe from Reiner, they are called Reiner Art Design. It was a beautiful pipe to look at but his attention to detail was not great, the pipe smoked ok, but I eventually sold it. I am not sure if he is even making pipes anymore. His blending skills is off the charts, I smoke his Solani Silver Flake, 633 and Brigham Klondike Gold on a regular basis.
I totally agree about the Dunhill Flake. I used to smoke the Dunhill Light Flake made by Murrey and I think the new version is every bit as good if not better. It is one of my go to morning smokes. It has a nice rich flavor with hints of caramel that I find perfect with my morning coffee. I once tried a Sillem flake that had hints of orange listed on it but never really tasted the orange. I smoked the tin but did not add it to my rotation as it just didn't do much for me, it was too bad because the price was very good on it. I don't know why I don't care for the Reiner Long flake as I do smoke a number of flakes with Burley/ Kentucky in them. Maybe I should revisit it and let it age a few years.
