Who knows a dependable pipe repair craftsman in the US who has "open books" on new jobs? R.I.P. Mr. Lewis (if I understand this correctly). Let me stress US based and "open books" for new repairs.

@ashdigger thanks for posting. Actually, by "open books," I mean they are willing to accept new business (I'm taking the phrase from custom pistol smiths, 1911's in particular like C. T. Brian :). I pm'd one well known repairman and he's not taking any new repair orders.

6 months to 1 year is okay by me.

I don't know of any others since Mike retired and Rich passed away (again, if I understand correctly from Pipedia - and I'm leaving messages to get my Mathold returned: "Note: Sadly, we have just learned that Rich Lewis died suddenly and unexpectedly of a heart attack on June 1st, 2023, leaving an unparalleled sense of loss to those that knew him. The Lewis family has owned Lewis Pipe & Tobacco since 1969. I started working here in 1972 when I was just 20 years old.Jun 16, 2023").

Any names you might know and are willing to pass along will be great!
Thanks,
Mike

@AJL67 and everyone, above--thanks for the great help.

Type of repair is a loose fitting stem. I got a birth year Dunhill from ebay that had something stuck on the tenon (clear fingernail polish maybe?). I didn't think before I acted, I simply scraped it off (should have asked myself why someone would put it there! LOL). Now the stem turn freely and falls out!

BTW--what's "ppl?"
Hope everyone here has great smoking and lots of smiles.

I doubt you want a new stem cut, you know keeping the original, and me personally i would just go with clear nail polish again, i think putting it inside and not on the tendon though, if it's that loose i don't see graphite or bees wax or whatever working. Just my thoughts and what i would try first.

@RustiePyles CPG your thoughts?

Thnkx @AJL67! What is your "avatar" (is that the right word?)--a preying mantis cartoon?

How loose is the stem? Have you smoked since you got it? Sometimes a loose stem can be rectified just by smoking the pipe. Try dipping a Q tip in some distilled water and wiping it in the mortise and then smoking the pipe. It’s just might tighten up.

It falls out when I stick it in the mortise and turn the pipe, bowl up. I'll try the distilled water, thanks--never thought of that.

If it's a Dunhill, then send a PM to georged he's a member here and he did an excellent job on my 1926 Dunhill
