I suggest you may try some natural stem material, such as bamboo to have a consistent look for the rustic style.

Finding your own style is one way to go.

What else besides bamboo makes a good stem and is easier to work with?

I don't have a lathe yet, so I'm limited to what I can do, on stems.

Both look great, I'm sure they smoke great as well:) I like more of a bend in all my pipes but homemade and rustic is great no matter what:) great job!

Thanks Dot, believe me I want to load that bad boy up, my last poker wasn't as nice looking as this one and I sold it to a man in Hungary, I am trying to get my materials back out of them around $45.00 so I can get another Chunk of Briar to keep practicing. I don't think you can sell them for enough to cover the time you put into making one using a hand drill and files. I kept the Jumbo sitter I made as I couldn't stand to part with it.
