Gentle folks,

This is a lovely 1979 C graded Stuge Ikebana .
The acryl shank extension looks to be nibbled by mice :)
If so the little critters chipped off quite some .
I contemplate filling the damage with CA glue, or epoxy resin.
UV light might eventually cause some yellowing.
Please share your expertise with me.Tsuge Ikebana 1979 C pipe 01.jpgTsuge Ikebana 1979 C pipe 02.jpgTsuge Ikebana 1979 C pipe 03.jpg

Thank you ofafeather, it is.
Apart from the gourgeous shape there is plenty straight grain and an abundance of tight birdseye on the
rim.
No, there are three "nibbles" 1-2 mm deep.
The acrylic shows tranparence with wonderful underlying angel hair lines, so my intuition tells me a transparent fill could be appropriate, also in terms of color etc.

Thank you all , so many good options to consider !
Smoothing the damage out a little with a drop of thin viscosity CA glue could also make a huge difference and could protect for further hurt .
I beg to differ ; it is def. not horn ! I cleaned up many horn stem ( rams horn and bovine- walkingstick handles too ) and this is sophisticated acrylic or similar.
Horn is actually similar to hair ; it is keratin.
When chipped ( actually it cannot chip ) it does not feel brittle; this does, brittle and kind of sharp.
The pattern is not like in horn either .

Almost forgot ; the shank extension can be removed !
I suspect it was not meant to be, but the glue somehow let go. The residue feels like a gell type of glue.
When removed the shiny, metal tube that keeps the marriage intact is exposed.
It gives a nice insight in how this pipe was constructed, will post a picture later.
The face of the extension also shows is not horn .
If I'm mistaken I'll eat my hat; in public !
