After watching the video below I started pondering if the Burners/torch lighter might still be usable(in right hands ) for pipes,especially outdoors,on occasion I have seen some older pipesmokers using them here,what is your take on this?

I learned with matches that a low temp flame was best for me. When I got a lighter, I was looking for a low flame temp and one that I could direct toward the tobacco and not degrade the rim.
im not into it but ive seen old timers use them on pipes and their excuse is that its "faster"

When it comes to torch lighters and pipes I prefer the Nancy Reagan approach...
It can be done provided you're not someone spending more that a second or two lighting a pipe or are prone to having the flame touch the chamber and rim while lighting.
If : outside And, vertically, quickly... yes, I do it with the torch.
Quite possible to use a torch flame without doing damage to anything. It's simply not a recommended method, though I use one in a high wind. ,
I use torch lighters, but only with cigars or rollies. I can’t get behind the idea of using one to light a pipe and prefer a much softer flame for that.
Very risky. It's only a matter of time before you get the angle a tiny bit wrong, a gust of wind moves the flame or you hold the jet too close.
I forgot the most important thing. It's hard to accurately guage the center of a one inch diameter target that's suspended 5 or 6 inches from your eyes. I'm lucky to get close enough not to scorch the rim using a match.

I smoke several bowls every round of golf. I use a couple of cobs. I light with a torch. I try to hit the center of the tobacco and also am brief with applying the flame. There's probably over 50 bowls on each cob, haven't burnt out either yet. I'm mildly surprised by that and looking in the bowls, it doesn't appear burn out is likely to occur anytime soon.
With all that said, I would in no way endorse using a torch to light any of my briar pipes.

if you can't use a match it's too windy to smoke. It's really not hard to use a match or soft flame lighter in even a stiff wind.
Back when I owned a pipe store I saw dozens of good pipes that were ruined because the bowl rim was all burned up by torch lighters. 
Don't use them when drinking adult beverages.

Torch lighters are one of the best ways to reduce tongue bite.
The only time I'm forced to draw heavily is while lighting, but with the a flame thrower you can still light with a sip.
The perfect lighter would just be a heated rod though, no flame and no need to draw at all, you could just stab it into the tobacco and wait.
I just realized some soldering irons might fit the bill. Hmm...

Couldn't disagree more! About being too windy.
Agree you can light with a soft butane in winds up to about 12 kts. Maybe 15.
