I accidentally let the Bayou Morning Flake I brought into work get crunchy dry and it was one of the best bowls of that blend I’ve smoked so far. After reading this thread and smoking this bowl I realize I was putting to much thought into not letting my tobac dry out throughout the day. Now I realize the worst that will happen is it will smoke better lol
That's a great one to smoke dry!

I grew up with the myth of moist tobacco. One of the things I've finally embraced because of Pipes Magazine in the last few years is dry tobacco isn't as bad a thing as I thought it was. If anything, it's a very good thing. I used to worry about leaving tobacco out in the crappy plastic bags on the porch where I smoke for fear it would get too dry. Now I leave some of the wet stuff in open bags so it drys out and as long as its not turning to dust, I smoke it!

I smoke flakes almost exclusively. The 2 blends that are not are two aromatics which are Cult Blood Red Moon and Sutliff Molto Dolce. either one and the Molto does a cool snap crackle and pop thing and sounds wet as hell, but it smokes fine. I don't like too dry as that means it smokes fast and hot and that is no good either. All my other flakes besides the Gawith's, are all mostly ready to smoke right out of the tin. I don't know which blend isn't ready to smoke but it is not something that comes to my mind right off the top of my head. Maybe 2 blends are not ready to smoke out of 39 other flakes. Everything else is good to go. I like some moisture in my flakes as they burn slower and cooler with some moisture. I really don't like any of my blends with too much moisture., or anything that is too dry , as too dry means it smokes hot and fast. Too much moisture means I get a wet smoke that means gurgles and smokes wet as hell. The best amount of moisture is the Capstan Blue Flake, or Fribourg & Treyer Cut Virginia Plug or Wessex Brown Flake or Wessex Brigade Campaign Dark Flake or Wessex Gold Virginia Flake, or Astleys no 44 Dark Flake or, Wessex Gold Virginia, or Peterson Flake, and many others. All of these flakes smoke great out of the tin and they are perfect for the way I smoke.

In order to avoid tongue bite, I still have to dry almost every blend and especially those of Virginia forward blends
granted, the taste of Aromatics or where there is obvious topping note' in blends like Erinmore or Amphora Red too much drying will deteriorate character of the smoke
