96 is a good run.

Unrelated other than they're very old - Mel Brooks is still going at 97 and Kissinger recently turned 100.

I was fortunate to meet him at a local bookstore signing in my neighbourhood in Brooklyn years ago and get a book signed. I was supposed to mail him a caricature I had done of him for the Village Voice, but life got in the way and I never did—I was hoping to initiate some art talk and see if we could schedule doing some life drawing together at the Art Students League on 57th Street in Manhattan.

He was a man who made being pleasant look important. God bless him.

I never met him, but I ate at one of his favorite restaurants in Queens, Manducatis, at the end of the bridge from Manhattan. The couple who owned the restaurant were proud to have him as a regular.

He sang to win the hearts of generations, dementia be damned. His music lives.

Sad to hear this news. Frank Sinatra’s favorite singer says a lot about Mr. Anthony Dominick Benedetto’s creative impact. I’m sorry that I didn’t see him perform a few years ago. The last of the great crooners. He’ll be missed. RIP 🙏
