Welcome to pipe smoking!
First, let me advise you to smoke the best tobaccos you can afford. If your budget only allows for drugstore blends, start there by all means, but if you can afford better quality blends, buy them. The tobaccos in drugstore blends are not as high in quality as in some other blends. (That doesn't mean you can't enjoy them for what they are, just be aware of what you've got.)
It's my feeling that, especially if you smoking drugstore blends, you are better off, as a new smoker, trying burley blends instead of aros. Burleys are easier to keep lit, and smoke much cooler than aros. Explore the codger burleys - Prince Albert, Carter Hall, Sir Walter Raleigh.
(All of this assumes that you are new to smoking, not a cigar smoker looking to add to his smoking experience, or a fella trying to ditch cigs.)
I would advise new smokers to stay away from latakia blends, since they are, IMO, too complex for new smokers. I love Larry's Blend, but I have been smoking for over 40 years. I would not recommend it to a newb. Likewise, virginia based blends are too subtle for a newb.
I would suggest finding a good online retailer = one of the ones that advertises here would be a good place to start - and let them help you out. A sampler pack of their own label bulks could be a great way to start.
Have fun, and enjoy the journey. :puffpipe:
