Hello everyone! I am new to pipe smoking as well as this forum. I was just wondering if you more expirenced smokers could recommend a tobacco for me. I am looking for a good smoke that is moderate. Not too light but not to robust. Something I can smoke all day other than Captain Black (only kind i've tried so far). A good flavor would be nice as well. Thanks!

Are you looking for a light aromatic blend? Or a light english blend? Maybe a little of both?
For a nice light english I would recommend :
Larry's Blend - Just tried this a few days ago and it is absolutely lovely. Light smokey earthiness with hint of sweet. It's technically a Balkan and the desciption says it's "full-bodied", which it is, but I would consider it very light and should be a very gentle intro into the world of English blends.
I'm drawing a blank in the Aromatic department. My favoritre aromatic so far would be:
Butera's Sweet Cavendish. This has a very hard to describe flavor. It's very buttery and sweet at the same time.
You'll need to do some research on your own, or maybe attack a sampler package offered by the various sponsors on the site.

Edit: Herbinedave makes a good point. Lane Limited makes some very nice aromatics from what I've heard. Might not be a bad idea to start with their selection.

I'm literally smoking 1Q for the first time right now. That's my recommendation for a newbie hands down from now on. It burns cool, has a great flavor, and no bite at all. And I tend to be a vigorous puffer at times :puffpipe:

If you like Captain Black, 1-Q will do the trick. So will Mark Twain from A&C Peterson.
If you want a completely different taste experience.. the world is your oyster and the choice is limitless.

I have been smoking H&H classic burley kake and it is great. The tin note smells too strong, but it smokes cool, no bite, taste great and seems to smell great to those around you.

My first non-aromatic was Frog Morton on the Bayou. Loved it then and love it now. Had no idea how smooth and easy-smoking it was at the time. The Frog Morton blends have a good portion of stoved Virginia or unflavored Cavendish (or both) and that makes them really smooth and a little sweet. Stuff like Dunhill English blends, for example, can burn a little hot if you're not real careful. Same with GL Pease blends, which are great, but they take a little bit of smoking technique if you're a tender-tongue like me.
Very good advice for a beginner, I smoked only aromatics for 9 months before I tried my first straight Virginia, vaper, and English blends. I wish I had ventured sooner because I've come to realize in the last two moths that I really really like heavier English blends. But it can be overwhelming as well, with so many tobaccos available! So enjoy what ever you get, and keep experimenting!

First, let me advise you to smoke the best tobaccos you can afford. If your budget only allows for drugstore blends, start there by all means, but if you can afford better quality blends, buy them. The tobaccos in drugstore blends are not as high in quality as in some other blends. (That doesn't mean you can't enjoy them for what they are, just be aware of what you've got.)
It's my feeling that, especially if you smoking drugstore blends, you are better off, as a new smoker, trying burley blends instead of aros. Burleys are easier to keep lit, and smoke much cooler than aros. Explore the codger burleys - Prince Albert, Carter Hall, Sir Walter Raleigh.
(All of this assumes that you are new to smoking, not a cigar smoker looking to add to his smoking experience, or a fella trying to ditch cigs.)

I can wholeheartedly recommend Pipesandcigars.com blend Butternut Burley. I liked it so much I ordered half a pound of it. Packs great, takes to match effortlessly, nice and mild, no bite to be had at all, and it has a nice, warm, comforting flavor. When I have a day off and I puff on a pipe all day long, I have at least 3 or 4 bowls of this. Excellent stuff. You may also want to get ahold of a little bit of English tobacco as well. Larrys Blend and Frog Morton are both excellent suggestions, as well as Dunhill Early Morning Pipe or maybe a little Cornell and Diehl Engine 99 for a richer flavor.
1Q is a good pick for sure. I haven't smoked it in years but I might throw a few ounces on a future order just to have for the heck of it.

Hello everyone! I also am some what new to this amazing liesure time habit! Seein if anyone could streer me towards a solid next purchased based on what I have been enjoying for the past 2 weeks. So far not the biggest on aromatics I can say that much. I find myself smoking several pipes of Frog Morton and Balakan Siesani, which would be my favorite at the moment... where should I go from there?
+1 Jud. If you can afford something better, you really will get a better quality tobacco.
I'll agree with everyone that's recommending Frog Morton. It is an absolutely fantastic smoke. 1Q is also a really nice daily smoke and it has zero complexity. It has subtle flavor, it's easy to get going, and it burns quite cool.
