Looks like a home-made fake to me!

:!:
Pipestud would know the answer.
He must be summoned!
Is it real or is it fake?

Huh, Butera era. Could be real. The stuff wasn't a unicorn then, just another tin on the shelf.
$160 for a bag of Stonehaven? Someone likes it a whole lot more than I do.
Probably bought by a desperate, or maybe disparate, smoker from Bessarabia.

spidey sense is a tingle with this one,

but you never know, perhaps it was available as a "sample tin" at one time?

or a special for pipe shows or something?
I've never seen a tin of SH and have often wondered why they don't make them,

but if they did I'm not sure I'd want it in a small round 1/2 ounce tin.
Zooming in gives a little detail, but it's really sorta a crappy pic:

Notice that it has two different weights listed?
Maybe an artifact from someones cellar who made special little keepers or made for baccy bombing?

"Best Full English Tobacco" is the copy for Margate...
Indeed.
The instance of its occurrence on a supposed tin of Stonehaven is most definitely highly irregular.

You got me, mrlowercase. Although the seller misspelled the word "trial" it is what looks to be a legit trial tin that was perhaps sold at one time. Wonder how they got those square flakes in a round tin?

Seller claims he bought a few sample tins on eBay years ago. {shrug}
