I recently added 3 new-to-me blends to try along with my recent re-supply of Crooner.

Those blends are all C&D and in no particular order are: Americana, Founding Fathers and Yorktown.

Americana is a Pegasus-like Codger but with a light touch of Latakia. I really don’t know why I purchased this one, because Latakia isn’t in my wheelhouse.

As for Founding Fathers (a pomegranate flavored aromatic) I suppose, like many of us, I like trying blends that my rational mind knows I’m going to dislike. I can’t do aromatics. This one is no exception. What’s the phrase? It Sublimates the flavor of the tobacco.

On to Yorktown. Now, I’m not a Virginia smoker. But I’ve read that Yorktown is the VA for the VA smoker who wants to dispense with the fussiness.

It does load and burn beautifully. It’s definitely scored points for being well behaved. It’s dry and it smokes quite cool.

It’s also quite a tasty blend. Lighter in body and flavor than I’m used to smoking and not 1736704941649.jpegdissimilar in body to Briar Fox. I find it naturally sweet.

Certainly not cloyingly so. It’s Virginia sweet. A gentle well behaved, lightly sweet tobacco with a nice retro and and room note. An all day smoke.

Thanks for the recommendation, @anotherbob. It’s a winner. Will it join my rotation? It does have a place and serve a purpose. It’s lighter fare. If I smoke it first and allow it’s flavor to find me; changing over to Granger or Crooner is pure ecstasy because their familiar flavors scream at me.

However, in trying a bowl immediately after one of my creamier staples: Winchester, Pegasus, Crooner or Granger - I have a bit of difficulty tasting Yorktown.

That’s not a ding. I appreciate Yorktown. It’s just that my preference in tobacco is Burley or VaBur.

Perhaps AnotherBob and others who regularly reach for and enjoy Yorktown can better share what they find appealing.

C&D? It’s Great Stuff!

No idea.

However I have a bent meer just like that one made by Astas. And I think it's become my favorite pipe. Good choice my friend. Haha.

So you got two of my faves. I do really want to try the other one too. Funny Founding Fathers is precisely what I want in a aromatic I always find for me neither the aroma or the tobacco flavors to be in the front but somehow sharing the stage well. I.e. I can tell a lot about the tobacco used and the added flavor (aroma) is certainly present but never stops me from appreciating the base leaf used in it.
Yorktown now that's just my main smoke. The thing is it's an all day smoke but complex for an all day smoke. It just hits that sweet spot for me. That spot where it's complex enough to really dig into if I want to do my imitation of JimInks, and straightforward enough to just mindlessly smoke. Though this will say a lot about what kind of smoker I am pipe wise. It just behaves perfectly for me. For example it can bite but if it was a dog it's the dog that lets you know it's going to bite by growling till you back down a bit. It's great straight out of the tin too but if you let it get really dry it's even better (but requires more slow smoking technique, mainly to not burn through it). I don't often have issues with not smoking it down to almost nothing but ash and sometimes even get pure ash (not often but it happens). Yeah it is a smoke that is pretty easy going and not too picky. It's often a two matches smoke char and light.
It makes me happy when someone tries that one. Even more so if they love it.
I think @sablebrush52 has said Yorktown features heavily in his rotation.

I love this pipe. My only Meer at present. It smokes well and even though I own very few bents, this one takes a pipe cleaner to the bowl without much effort. It’s just beginning to color.

I didn’t mention that I also found that it tends to dry the back of my throat. No bite at all. Just causes dryness. - Funny because most folks complain of burley in the harshness department. We’re all different. I find burley nutty, smooth and flavorful and if the atmosphere was Granger smoke, I could breathe in such a world.

Yeah. I agree. It’s good tobacco Yorktown and it’s good to venture out of the norm. I purchased that on your glowing comments. It earned you a Title Thread.

burly harsh? I never got that. I've always found burly pretty darn agreeable and bite free. Honestly though I think burly gets flack from some people for no really reason.

Of the C&D catalog, Yorktown is one of the few blends I really like. I have pounds of the bulk. Yes, it’s light, but the reds provide some interest, and it’s an easy all day smoke for this Virginia smoker. Takes to the flame easily and burns easily. No muss no fuss.
There’s a lot to be said for that.
