Hello! Here’s a place to start: Tortoise Forum - https://tortoiseforum.org/

Like everything, finding reliable info online can be tricky but I have found that they are a great resource. There is a turtle section on the forum. Best of luck and welcome to Captain Spaulding!
Thank you so much. The guy was going to release it into the wild but I know captive animals never do well in the wild.

I have a Russian Tortoise and in the past I've owned another Russian and Leopard Tortoise. Unfortunately, I had to re-home those other tortoises years ago. I've not owned a turtle, as I find that tortoise's are easier to care for. I still think Captain Spaulding works for the name for your turtle.

My current tortoise is named "Morla" after the tortoise from the movie "The Never Ending Story." Best guess she's about 10-12 years old. I rescued her as was found in someone's backyard about 6 years ago, and no owner came forward to claim her, I kept her. In the summer months I put her outside to roam the yard. One of my dogs follows her all over the place and keeps watch over her, which is nice, because it helps me find her when she's roaming the yard. You'd be surprised how fast they can move when they want to. I swear I take my eye off of her for two minutes and she's gone. We always joke about tying a balloon to her to make it easy to find, but my dog does it for us. We like to stick her in the bunny cage as well, so we can have those Tortoise vs. Hare moments. LOL
