Just read the thread on Lurkers on the forums. Lol. Had a good laugh. So what does a newbie like me have to do to renounce his Lurker status? I’m afraid to find out! 😂 Hopefully I’m on my way.

Didn’t you read the Welcome Manifesto?

Some people!!

You’re supposed to bribe or payoff post nice things about the lifers.
Lol. I was gonna say something nice in the Lurker thread but it was closed. As for bribing or paying off the lifers, see my post in the PAD thread. I’m in trouble! 😂

I have no idea what is on the other thread you mention. I can't read all of them, but when we talk about "lurkers" we are talking about people who have NOT created accounts, but can peruse the forums reading what we've posted. I know that Kevin was being very tongue in cheeky when he created these categories of forum membership. But, if you have created an acct, you are not a lurker any more. However, if you want to have that first category changed, you just participate in discussions, and your post count will change your category.

Lurkers are the ones who watch for drop announcements on here and then manage to react more quickly when someone posts drops. This is why I keep saying that posting a drop on here is NOT giving your friends a heads up. You're just adding to the stampede to buy it all up as quickly as possible. I know that everyone wants to be the one "in the know," but I'm sorry. You're just adding to the shitshow. If you really wanted to give a friend a heads up, then just PM them... or call them... there's no real way to help someone get there fast enough to actually be on any use. Unless we are talking about a drop of something that doesn't sell out fast.

Welcome aboard. Like much in life, it's much more fun to participate than to watch.
So far having a bang on time. Love all the knowledge that is being shared. So many questions as a fairly new pipe smoker. Ask my dad quite often. He was a 30 year pipe smoker, but he just keeps saying he hasn’t done it for 30 years and doesn’t remember anything. Ah well, inherited a bunch of old Brighams from him. Now I just gotta figure out where I can get the stems fixed. He chewed through most of em’ badly.

I feel like i could write a page or two on lurkers, but I won't. I mean the people who read but never join Forums. Some may just be overly shy, vicarious, or voyeuristic, which is the joke. Some people just don't have the inclination to communicate in writing and photos. Others may want the info but not want to devote time to the conversation.

It has always seemed to me that people in the pipe and tobacco biz would do well to read a few threads now and then to hear how some of their customers talk about things, even if they don't want their business on Forums.

The people who appear here as lurkers are actually former lurkers, though some of them retreat to the shadows and don't post much or at all.
