Texas Bill to Prohibit Sale of Flavored Tobacco

Texas House Bill 3842 would prohibit "flavored cigarettes, e-cigarettes, and tobacco products." The pipe is only mentioned once in the bill, and that is an e-pipe, but if it's like other states, flavored pipe tobacco would be banned. I find it hard to believe that a Texan would bawk at losing access to tooty fruities over a real man's tobacco. (/sarcasm)

The geezer lobby ought to get their legal staff to petition the legislature to write pipe tobacco out of the bill. Otherwise, it sounds like "flavored tobacco" would surely encompass pipe blends. It's the nanny state in a Stetson.

I imagine this would only include products specifically marketed as "Vanilla" or "Chocolate". Hence the SG shift to KC Flake vs Kendall Cream or CH Flake vs chocolate.

that’s good. I wouldn’t trust people down there with anything. Let alone flavored tobaccos.

that's one of the problems with these bills they're not always worded in a concise manner.

that the motivation isn't to keep kids off the smokes, but to hobble a growing industry that threatens an older and more lobby prone industry (cancer sticks).

As 'bob says, the bills are not always worded in a concise manner, and never in a precise manner, so eventually the whole question goes to the courts, which are not the even handed institution they once were. It would be way too much to ask (never mind expect) the legislators to consider the situation of the pipe smoking community. They'd consider that nitpicking. Unless one of the legislators in the majority party smokes a pipe, in which case it would rise to the level of an emergency.

There are no flavored tobaccos. Eliminate the wording in the title names. Instead of Bing Cherry, you have Red Romanoff, a mild cavendish reminiscent of the struggles of old comrades . Sure to make you feel like your own the road with Bob Hope and company.

If they get really crafty with their interpretation of the bill, it could wipe out most tobacco. Cigarettes have anise, many production pipe tobaccos have sweetened casings, and tobaccos like latakia, perique, and dark fired are flavored through their processing.

Depends on if casing counts as flavoring. If so, it bones a ton of blends.

The California bill specifically exempted pipe tobacco.

Don't mind him, there's only 1 state he likes. Eventually the lower 48 refugees will migrate up there though and he'll have to head for the pole.
