I'm new to pipe smoking, but enjoyed the aroma and style as a child, with my grandfather never without his pipe. I've been a cigarette smoker all my life and would like to settle into a pipe now.

Just an aside, I worked for years with Dr. Gary Hook, although not directly with his shop; he edited the journal Environmental Health Perspectives, located in Research Triangle Park, N.C. Just before he retired, I learned he was a Maori, Ph.D. in genetics, who returned to New Zealand to head one of the universities dedicated to educating Maori students. At one point, he'd offered me a job with the journal, but I felt I was more suited to translating science to the general public, not writing to a scientific audience. He was a good editor, and I worked for some years on the "news committee" of the journal, helping to single out news stories the journal should cover.

Welcome! Oddly, today my news feed popped up with an article about a Kiwi who is making coffins that are different from the norm. They started with the one that looked like a donut and it went "interesting" from there.
