Just a reminder to anyone within driving distance of Raleigh, N.C., or who will be in the area,

the TAPS Pipe and Tobacciana Expo will be this Saturday, April 12, at the N.C. State Fairgrounds

in the Governor James G. Martin Building, inside Gate 9 on Trinity Road , across the parking lots

from the grandstand. As the flyer says, parking is paved and virtually unlimited. Hours are

9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Among many other exhibitors, Old Dominion corncob pipes, one of our

sponsors, and the N.C. pipe carver Jerry Perry, among many others. There will be tobacco

available for sampling in the smoking area on the covered patio at picnic tables. I can't imagine

you could attend in less than two hours, and perhaps more like three or four (or all day) if you

intend to do any serious pipe shopping or sample several bowls of tobacco with an appropriate

break between "tastings." Our new sponsor Pipe and Leaf will also be there, I believe. A side

trip would be Pipes by George on Hillsborough Street east if the NCSU campus. Saturday's he's

open until 5 p.m. I'm not vested in either the pipe show nor the pipe shop, except as a customer.

We're looking forward to attending as well. We should have a good selection of our Old Dominion "Virginia Planter", "Laughing King", and "Chesapeake" cob pipes available at the show.

Bumping this back to the top, one more time, as a reminder. If you haven't planned your

weekend and are within driving distance of Raleigh, N.C., this may be your best plan!

This is a pleasantly compact show. You can take it all in and still sample a few bowls of

tobacco and enter a raffle or silent auction and most important meet pipe retailers, carvers,

tobacconists, and other pipe professionals, collect some business cards for future reference,

pick up a briar and/or corncob pipe, and likely leave with a goody bag besides. What's not

to like?

Great time at the pipe show! I met Forum pipers vending at the show from Old Dominion and Pipe and Leaf, and

bought two OD cob pipes and an excellent unfinished Sav panel from Pipe and Leaf, learning that Sav may be

bringing the unfinished pipe series to a close. This one has few fills, a lucite stem, and is stamped. Mighty nice.

I bought a panel Mountain Laurel straight billiard from my favorite pipe carver Jerry Perry, and got samples of Lowlands

tobacco, Cooper and Waccamaw, at the smokingpipes.com table and enjoyed talking with folks there. It's an impressive

show, and they gave me a goody bag with Sutliff Wesminister and Delux Balkan Blend on he way out. Incidentally, the

prices on the pipes were excellent. I went expecting to bring home one or two corncob pipes, and came home with

four pipes ... so what else is new?

jiminks, enjoyed meeting you! The Edward G. Robinson was terrific, and if I hadn't bought the

second briar, I'd have come back for a tin. I'd put something on my card, written a check, and

gone through my cash, so you know I had a good time.
