Hello all,
Looking for the sweetest Straight VA I can get, preferably in a ribbon cut. I bought some Jewel of St. James perique and I'm going to make a Krumble Kake Va/Per. This is going to be put up for a year or so.
Want to create kinda a sweetish mix.
Thoughts?

Cased or uncased?
Also, by not considering flakes, I'd guess you've cut your options by as much as 75%.

Minimal casing..sugar/water is fine. Red may make a good blend. Any ideas or suggestions welcome. Would consider a VA cavandish though not one in the vein of a 1q or autumn evening. Unsweetened VA cav may work.
Keep 'em coming!

---The counselor is right, on two counts.---
I object..on both :) I like flakes just not for this project.
I am going to have to get some samples of the Red Ribbon/5100/Classic VA
These are leading the way so far..still open to ideas though.
Remember: The project is to make a VaPer Krumble Kake w/Jewel of St James Perique...

Union Square is made from some high-sugar brights, so it's naturally sweet. Although it's a flake, the flakes break apart easy enough on their own.

I don't think of Red Ribbon and Union Square as particularly sweet. Your experience may vary, though.

McClelland bulk 2010 would be a good base for a VaPer concoction. So would Mac Baren Virginia #1. Both bulks.
But really, with a plethora (I love being able to use that word!) of great, distinctive VaPers available, why bother?
Want a nice VaPer crumble kake? Try C&D's Kajun Kake, H&H Anni Kake, or even Capt. Earl's Honor Blend (adorned with whispers of Oriental and Cavendish). And I think you'll have a hard time trying to improve on C&D's Chenet's Cake. But good luck! Part of the joy of a hobby is experimentation. I understand that. Just remember to take good notes so you can reproduce you successes, and avoid repeating failures.
I think Esoterica's Peacehaven and Brighton are two ribbon cuts that go very well with blending Perique.

I've mixed them that way with some success; but never in a crumble cake -- which could be interesting.
Oh! It just came to mind: John Patton's Quadruple Virginia. It's really Cool Hand Fluke without the 40% Perique, so for sure it's Perique-friendly. Since it's slightly sweet it would probably be nice in a crumble cake -- and, it's a bulk.
